Do your videos get GOOD comments?

They do! I think because I take time to write really thought-out replies to comments, it lets people know that I'm reading and will engage in conversation with them. It takes a while to build up a sense of community, but it's worth it, I think.

The only downside is I occasionally see people who feel like they're not part of "the club" if they're new, so they don't comment. Which is too bad, because some great discussions have happened in video comments.

I don't expect every comment to be amazing in terms of criticism/response. But think about the effort you have to go through in order to leave a comment, many people don't so even when I get a GENUINE (this is important) response, I make sure to reply thanking them for leaving it. Now determining whether a comment is genuine or difficult, thank fully YouTube looks out for their creators and has an implicated spam filter which is generally good at catching people who comment things withing the first few seconds of the video and leave. But just in case it doesn't they you have to be the ultimate judge.

Oh and watch for trolls, some people will hate on you for no rhyme or reason. Genuine criticism generally comes with suggestions on improvement.

I hardly ever get people asking for me to sub to them, but I do get quite a bit of people asking me to do certain videos. Most of my audience is made up of young kids or preteens, so there isn't much conversation to begin with. Most of my comments are dramatic reactions from people. Here's a sampling of comments from yesterday that don't include requests:

Most of them are of the shorter variety, the ones that blow me away is when they actually type a wall of positivity! I enjoy the heck out of all nice comments though. It is someone taking the extra effort to put something down!

One of my channels just started a month ago and has 18 subscribers. But the only comments I am getting are thank you's. Even a nonsubscriber told me thank you and that he felt the same as the last commenters. Now, they all starting to click like more often too. It must be those lengthy 6-12 hours videos I am uploading for them. If only I have more content and subscribers, then I'll tell them to say thank you with their wallet.

I'm probably gonna jinx it now (lol) but so far I have only positive comments and all likes (no dislikes) on my videos. I guess I'm just not big enough yet. I'm sure I will get some trolls or haters in the future haha.

Maybe making a pinned comment on your own videos asking for feedback, their opinions, or just noting some important point in the video would work really well.

People are more inclined to comment if they are able to reply directly to you via your pinned comment :)

I seem to get an overwhelming amount of positive and constructive comments on my videos and a very low percentage of spam or trolling comments. Considering that I'm very interactive with people on my YouTube stream and also try to do things in my videos that make the audience feel as if they are a part of it, I believe that cuts down on the riff raff.

The more work I put in, the better the comments get. Once I did a video about a game with a rabid fan base on its anniversary when the company that made it did nothing to acknowledge it. Man, I got about 50 long thank you xoxo type comments for that.
