Do you YouTube for a living?

In a way? I work freelance as an editor, mainly for Youtubers right now. So in a way I'm working Youtube full time, but my own channel is barely a source of income.

I know a lot of you are probably still in school, but I was wondering how many people here actually quit their day job to make videos full time? It's obviously a dream of mine, not only because I love doing it, but because I loathe my real job so much. I'd need to be pretty damn successful to convince my wife that we don't need my salary. Tell me your story.

Thanks.
I do since it is very fun & i enjoy making videos I hope that by the time i am 21 youtube is my official career

kind of?
like I dont earn a ton, but I happily live at home and don't have a lot of bills.
I wouldn't quit my day job though, its only 1 day a week and if anything crazy happened to my channel I'm happy to have a lifeline.

I still dream about the possibility, but you need 6-7 figure subscriber numbers - and the views that go with them. I've watched a few gamers' videos about them making the transition and they were both close to a million subs.

I'd also be interested to hear more from any full timers here.
Thats total false thinking that you need so many subscribers, in fact you do not need them at all to have millions of views :)
Well maybe only in that case if your video are watched only by subscribers and does not appear on related videos and youtube and google search and are not shared anywhere.

I give you example from my own practice - on one of my channel i have ~5k subscribers (its 1% of all views watched by subscribers, and 99% by not subscribed viewers), and the channel videos getting ~1m views per month (game related channel) so as i see it from my side - subscribers amount is mostly good for visual reputation of the channel (can attract more and better advertisers who is looking authority channels to advertise on them, getting better deal with MCN etc.), but for getting views you literally can have 0 subscribers and getting millions of views from related videos and searches.

Just to give some proof of my words attaching screenshot of last 28 days, and also Subscribed vs non Subscribed views comparison

Just wanted to give some motivation to people who has no subscribers and thinks the only way to get views is to have a million of subscribers ;)

I wish I could have it as another source of income but I don't think I will ever reach it to be totally honest. Getting enough views are pretty hard for what I love to upload on youtube and I don't plan to change it, so for now I will keep slaving myself working on a retail store lol

I definitely don't live off of it, but it helps me pay for various things that would otherwise chew into my actual income. (It helps pay for food, games, movies, etc.)
