Do you think it's a good idea to branch out to other content?

I think it is a very good idea if you have the time for it and good ideas:)
I am interested in learning animation and maybe occasionally uploading those types of videos
I make animation videos too and I started my channel making other types of animations but along the way i changed my content. I have lost some subscribers of coruse but I still gain a lot and I make videos that i really enjoy making now:up2: But yes as far as I see it there is no problem at all in mixing it up a little;)

It a good idea I would say, some big Youtuber have done it too. Channels will get stale if you only focus on one content especially dedicated gaming channels that stick to one games only (I looking at you Fortnite youtuber). I wanted to expand to different type of content once I have the proper equipment I need.

Back when I first started youtube in 2013 (started in 2012, but we don't talk about that channel), I was strictly on Minecraft, yes, Minecraft. I was thirteen, what can I say. But out of past experiences branching off needs to be kept in moderation. You have a community that is there to watch the content you post of one game, so obviously make your primary community your priority. But say if you want to sprinkle in other games here and there, maybe so a let's play, or a series on another game that is not uploaded as much as your primary content, it is considered healthy for your channel, and can easily help you branch out to other communities as well, and who knows, you may intrigue them enough to stick around for your other content.

All you can do is try it and see what happens and hope it works for you.
My first channel was a mish mash of content and it didnt work. I created several channels and kept the channels seperate. And a couple of those are doing OK today.

Personally, branching out was the best thing to happen to my youtube channel! I used to post only gaming videos and, after getting burned out on posting only gaming videos, I decided to branch out to commentary videos and that's basically what helped my channel grow! I haven't done a serious gaming video in sometime (because i'm in college and classes take up 99% of my time; literally I used my playstation for the first time in two months on Sunday!) but I know that because I branched out, my gaming videos got views as well and actually had some people ask me why I stopped uploading gaming videos!

Branching out isn't a bad thing at all, personally you won't know if it'll be a good thing or not until you try it so I think you should go for it!

Are you providing niche content? Is your audience watching for your content or for you? If it's your content then they would probably want the same type of content, if your personality however is a heavy part of your content then it's likely they won't care as long as you are in it. If you fall under the latter then GO FOR IT make whatever content you want and people will watch it :)

I remember trying to make videos while going to college. It was a struggle most of the time! But you're definitely doing something right and your channel is growing amazingly! Thank you so much for your input :)

I'm not intentionally providing niche content, but I can see how it might look that way since I play a LOT of older games. But I've always tried to mix it up a bit and play a variety of different games instead of focusing on only one. I'm definitely thinking I want to do animation and create my own horror stories. Gaming will always be the main focus of my channel, but I feel like with animation, I would be able to create something that's completely my own and I like the sound of that ^_^.

I think it's a good idea. I've been putting some humor in my videos, and am branching out into more comedy/skit stuff. I also think you need to do something different to prevent burnout. Start out slow as not to shock your audience into thinking you abandoned them.

You'll never know until you try it. I do animated shorts and web series. I tried the story time animation, people liked both. I only stick to shorts and series now because I didn't care for the animated stories (following the trend). Your viewers will let you know. Put out stuff and then ask them at the end of you video if they would like to see more of that. Never know, it may make you re brand.
