Do you save your footage after export? Why?

David Stoll

Not to be taken seriously
Hey guys, I am just wondering whether people keep their initial raw footage and also their final pre-export footage. I have never deleted any footage, but I have no idea why I am keeping all this stuff. I have been moving stuff off my computer to the cloud or external drive. What am I keeping it for?

I've started deleting my raw footage once my edits have been fully rendered and uploaded to YouTube. A few of months ago I got rid of 468 Gig of raw video and vowed never to stockpile so much again. My reasons for stockpiling mainly boiled down to wanting to do a couple of montages. I soon realised that they took too much time, effort and multiple crashes of my system as I tried to render the whole thing - so I've simplified my processes and cut down on the amount of footage I keep.

I'm keeping hold of stuff too, I don't quite know why.

I guess my original train of thought was in case I needed stuff I haven't used, but I have a lot of one-off lets plays that I'll never revisit.

I think you may have inspired me to clear out my library lol

I never used to keep raw footage but I have been keeping roughly 3 months of raw and then deleting it after that as I doubt I will ever need it again. If I had unlimited HDD space I would keep all of it just for the sake of it.

Didn't you know this time of year everyone is doing their Creators Christmas Cleaning? :P

Yes and yes I'm also confused to why I'm doing it. Its not like the extra footage is going to benefit me, its usually just me forgetting how to talk for the millionth time :')

I export out a final of my films, then export out the same film with no music. This way I can utilize the no music one for edits to other things later, like channel trailers and such in the future.

I upload the two final videos to my web server where it lives, and remove the original footage once that's complete. I also back it up on an external drive.

Ahahah same, but I forced myself to save the best of it, cause I literally had no space to download music for a video that I had in Final Cut.

But yeah, why we still doing it?

How many of footages do Pews have? woooow
