Do You Save All Your Footage?

Delightfully Dumb

YTtalk Mad
I noticed a few YouTubers will occasionally post footage from their past videos, but it's the original footage, not what had been edited in the past video, which makes me think they've got all of their footage stored. I generally delete all of mine once the video is posted.

There have been a few times when I've wanted to add old footage as a reference in a new video, but then I'd have to take it from an edited video so it has music added to it, so I can't always use it.

After a while you'd have so much footage stored! Do you keep all of your footage so you can use it later? Do you just keep certain bits of footage? Do you have a 30,000 terabyte storage unit with all of your footage catalogued by date, topic, season? :p

I store everything! I've got several hard drives just with old footage on. Not only is it good for videos, (i used a ton in a music video) but its also like a photo album. You can go back and remember the times you did things or made stuff! :)

I have everything saved on a hard drive, the original footage, the recored audio files, the project file, the finished video, the thumbnail and anything else related to that video i.e images that were used either to make the thumbnail or in the video its self. All stored neatly in files. :)

I am starting to think that, it may be a bit OTT though

I save everything, even pictures, music and unedited videos...I'm a bit of a digital hoarder, I just keep thinking "what if I need it one day!"

I save everything! I have all of my RAW footage, and it's all backed up through Backblaze. I pay $5 a month and it backs everything up in case I ever drop my laptop and lose all my files ._. Apparently it backs up everything in your external drives too, you just have to connect them once a month or something but I haven't filled up my 1tb drive yet to test it out

I save everything from the past month and once a month I'll delete it. I just delete the things that i'm sure I'll never need again like gameplay recordings and stuff like that

I save everything to the point until my hard drive gets too full, then I start deleting old stuff for the new stuff....although I usually don't delete things unless I have to

I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to this stuff xD I keep everything I can to be honest, It helps for if, as you said, one of the clips is ever needed in a future project. I've never actually needed to do it yet however. I keep it all on a 2TB external hard drive, which I almost solely use for storing videos. Overall, I do think that it's a good idea but ONLY if you have the storage to keep it all. I mean, odds are, I'm going to start deleting some of my oldest stuff of cut videos from the hard drive once it starts to fill up too much.
