Do you like informational videos with background music?

I think this is in the right section lol

I was wondering if you guys like informational videos with background music? Between all the youtube I watch its maybe 50/50 for which ones use music and which ones don't. To you does music help or hurt a video? Would you rather it be there or not be there? Or do you just not mind/are indifferent

Background music, definitely. It just adds a little more depth to the video and fills in tiny gaps that would otherwise sound like awkward pauses - which is a huuuuge rookie mistake.
I make informational videos and find they instantly sound better with a little music. It helps set the mood and sometimes the rhythm can help you with timing.

Really good question.

I think I can give a balanced answer as somebody who watches a lot of onformational videos and has also made a couple myself.

I think whether you need music or not can come down to the topic, presentation style.

I watch a lot of Tai Lopez and Brandon carter videos where they are reviewing books or just talking about something to do with life and success.

These are usually one shot, no edit videos. Where they are just talking because they are informed on the subject and into what they are saying.

I feel like no music in this scenario aids to the conversational feel.

However with an edit how to style video where you said something, stopped, made another point, stopped, I think the music helps to piece it all together.

So in conclusion I think it comes down to the style and vibe of the videos.

I think starting out it helps to have the music to fill in what is lacking, be it enthusiasm, humour or something to interest the viewer

Music, Yes!

As a rule, go for music without harsh sounds or heavy bass, so it doesn't drown you out. Worst thing ever is music so loud or annoying that I cannot hear the dude talking. :3

i was just about to say yes, then i tried to imagine the president giving a speech over a bed of music and reconsidered lol

So i would have to say, it depends on the content and context of your video. Presidential speeches are informational, and a serious speech about raising taxes, or the war in the middle east, over a phat hip hop beat would not work - although with some dubstep it may be interesting, but for the most part no.

Music can make or break the video, so you need to select it carefully. On my vlog videos I shy away from using music because I produce them myself and can never find sound tracks that I am happy with. I also produce promo-documentary videos though, and the small production company I use puts a lot of time into selecting the right music. They do a great job of it and the finished video would not be anywhere near as good without the music.

So I guess I'm saying that you should use music on informational videos...but put a lot of thought into the selection.

Music is very important in videos. Make sure the music fits the scenario, so relaxing music would probably be perfect in your case.
