Do you hold your channel back from the world?

Easily Distracted
Tonight I exposed my channel to a coworker at a bar. I only did it because he's got a channel of his own, albeit, nowhere near the same level of dedication I put towards mine. For most of my coworkers, I hide my videos on facebook (until I leave the job, then all bets are off). But I went for it today and told him about my channel. I'm a bit nervous although I asked for his discretion at work. The sooner I get to leave the better, but it just feels good to talk about your channel to people in person and I'd like to know how many of you do it on a regular basis.

I Do, however i would expose it more but i dont know, afraid of negative reactions and I dont really want to let me friends know about it

I keep my Internet life and real life seperate, not touching. Hahah
Among everyone I know, I'll probably be looked down on as a geek or loser or something for being the only one with a gaming channel. I'm sure everyone will think all I do is play games all day. I get nervous when it comes to letting friends or others know about my channel. I also keep mine a secret XD

My girlfriend knows though and there are a select few friends who do know though.

The post for me, I have started telling everyone about it. I am shy but for me to get any where I have to share it with many people I plan to have a big event in my town where I go viral which seems very realistic on paper! Due to my physique I get approached daily, also famous in my town from my appearance! I feel letting everyone I encounter know about my life on YouTube makes me more confident and people who don't believe in you well they can forget the popcorn! I feel the more confident one is at not caring what others think the further they will go!

However, I limit who I tell in my inner network. Knowing they are all bound to find out still I keep it inside until I get a sufficient amount of subs and views! I feel if you bring an army to a 1 on 1 conversation the opposed will stand down because they can't pick on you as easily.

I understand y'all's and my own struggle start getting out of your comfort zone it's the greatest thing you will ever encounter! What's better than being so scared that it's exciting?

A lot of people don't understand it really.. I used to care about what other people thought about me so much so that I wasn't really myself around other people. I haven't explicitly told people I know in real life that I have a YouTube channel (bar family & friends). Though I do have it linked on my Twitter where I follow a lot of people from my town & they follow back so I'm sure quite a few people have seen it, what they think of it? I have no idea, thing is I don't really care :) I enjoy making videos and that's all that matters in my opinion! Having said that, I still haven't linked my Twitter to my YouTube in the way that tweets your latest video out once you've uploaded it.. Don't think I'm quite ready for that just yet... :roflmao2:

When I first started out, I was enthusiastic and posted my new stuff to Facebook where it received more of a positive response than I could have wished for. Then people who I'd never met at my school begun approaching me to tell me I was brave for posting my therapy online. I've never gotten any form of negative comment IRL but I no longer post where my friends might see; I got too anxious to attend my lessons and started to become paranoid about others speaking about me behind my back. Irrational, maybe, but counterproductive to the point of my exposure therapy really.

I showed some people at work my Christmas songs and they questioned why the hell I'm working there and not doing music or videos professionally. I wasn't sure whether to be annoyed or happy they like it. Because if I could do that, believe me I would. :crying:

I don't think I want anyone to know about mine just yet because I'm still at that awkward stage and the video's I create aren't amazing so I'm waiting until I have something amazing to post and then could possibility start exposing it to the outside world :P

The very first person I told about my 2010 channel was my teacher. If that's not gutsy I don't know what is.

Meh... I'll tell people, once I get the ball rolling. I don't really mind. Some will think it's cool, some will think it's stupid.

Two brains are almost always better than one. Don't "spam" your friends with requests to watch your videos and comment but some of them can actually give you valuable advises. Sometimes even if they tell you that they like certain video you can see on their faces that they actually do not. Your friends and sometimes relatives are your most valuable critics. Don't lurk in the shadows of YouTube - as an entertainer you must be very social both online and outline!
