Do you feel that YouTube helps small content creators?

I feel like YouTube is not supporting us smaller channels but instead looking towards the larger channels on YouTube. YouTube overall has made it harder for smaller channels to grow because of videos that have more of a view time and more views overall get promoted higher and it's harder for smaller channels to get videos high up on the search ranks on daily content that they do. So if I were to post a video on Call of Duty gameplay and it gets 10 views and all those views watch straight through the gameplay then YouTube would actually rank the video with a million views that I had half the video watch higher than mine even though mine has a longer view rating.What this comes at is that larger channels get promoted higher because they're more well known than the smaller youtubers and that's never how it was before. It was way easier for us to grow on YouTube when YouTube helped the small channels. Do you feel the same way? Tell me bellow!
 
it depends how you look at it, i remember a time when the net wanted to charge you a monthly fee for uploading any music or video - so free .....with an chance to make advertising money on mainstream media is very good and helpful.

On the flip side of the coin, the youtube numbers are fixed, the money is funneled to big corporations to make it a sustainable 'free' business model. a necessary evil so that we can upload an infinite amount of video and not have to pay bandwidth ? it wasn't cheap either!
 
I feel like its a lot easier to be seen and found if you're bigger, Like the whole 'more likes = turning up more in suggested videos and in the top of the search list' ect ect
which, I guess isn't something they can help.. Since, a video with 1,000 likes vs a video with 1 like, you would assume the video with 1,000 is more relevant or 'better' or whatever, by a statistical point of view
but, no.. I don't think they help very much

It's a shame thats how it works, though.. Hmm..!

Also, The sub box thing, i've found the less views you get and the less often you upload the less likely you are to turn up in someones sub box who has a lot of subscriptions (or something)
 
I am going to go ahead and say YES. They give you all the tools to be successful, you just got to use them. They will promote your stuff if your videos are good enough. Most of the people that answer NO on this question are pretty much hating on how every big YouTuber gets everything while they get nothing, ignoring the fact that many big YouTuber worked their a** off getting where they are now, or simply have that X factor that makes them balloon up like crazy.
 
More than pretty much anybody else is, sure. Is it harder than it was before? Probably. It's kind of like how if you join an online game the first day it's released, it's easier to be among the very best players than if you join 10 years in and there's countless top level people. It's still fair and doable but it takes dedication.

I'm gonna say is not like before. Before you would see videos in the front page that where popular that day, like for example I remember people would get some sort of awards on their videos for being the top something for this day and such. They could always make a system like Deviantart in which you could see the new videos being posted and things like that I dunno is just me.
 
Yeah, YouTube totally gives you the tools. At the end of the day if you focus on making great content the big channels don't have an advantage over you other than what they're initial subscriber base gets them. When it comes to the search algorithm 90% of the formula has to do with average view time so if your video is good it will eventually get to the top of search and start being fed into suggested videos. The only place where I see big YouTubers having a sustainable advantage that makes it really hard for new people to break in is if you're doing "news of the moment" type videos. By definition those types of videos get a ton of view initially but then the underlying search traffic drops off. Whose still searching for last months hot topic (e.g. is the dress gold or blue)? No one. So the big channels reaped the reward. Other than that type of content it's pretty much a level playing field.
 
I definitely believe YouTube helps in many way, including giving tools as others have said. One thing that amazes me is how many of the views I get come from searches, Suggested Video, and other YouTube-provided links. I have even gotten two subscribers through Recommended Channel. My channel is very small, but somehow YouTubes algorithms are picking up some of my videos. For those who don't think YouTube is helping you, you might dig deeper into Analytics/Traffic Sources.
