I don't know man. I totally understand you questioning if they do matter anymore. I honestly believe they do matter because people become more attracted to bigger channels.

I agree. I wish the subs would watch the vids more. I also feel silly at time telling people to 'leave their comments below' even though most of the time, noone really does.
oh no no no. I relate to whatever I'm talking about. I usually ask if they agree/disagree with that I'm saying. Like when I say certain movie is awful, I ask if the viewers agree or not, and if not, feel free to discuss why. Stuff like that. Yeah I don't just say 'leave comments below' lol. I have THAT much common sense.Do you just say "leave comments below" and let it go at that? I find that it gets a better response to have a particular kind of question in mind that you want them to comment on. Gives me more to respond back to that way.
I have a schedule, I upload every Wednesday; I have for nearly a year. It still doesn't explain how 100 subscribers each week aren't watching the videosIf one feels their subscribers are that low, I suppose they could come to that conclusion. The fact remains that subscribers being exposed to and expecting new content on a schedule, dramatically increases the likelihood of them returning based on that schedule. No schedule, on the other hand will result in the opposite effect.
2/3 is alot!Of course subscribers matter. How else will regular viewers get to know you've uploaded ?
OK, so maybe the regulars are only 20% of the total, but that's still a good figure. You can't expect subscribers to be totally dedicated to your channel.
As for asking for comments, likes, and subscribing, I never do that. It's irrelevant, people will do what they want.
I have a good following of regulars on my channel, and I am a regular on some other channels. It's all about making it a community affair, with the interaction that entails.
That's what makes your channel popular, people like to feel wanted.
