Do Subscribers Make More Subscribers?

I was having a chat with a friend recently about YouTube subscribers and how the more subscribers you have, the quicker your subscriber count grows.

For example, a big YouTuber could spend 4 years making videos before they hit 1 million subs, but by the end of the next year they're nearer to 4 million. If you already have a lot of subscribers did you find this to be true?

If you have less subscribers, do you agree that subscribers make more subscribers and is it something that encourages you to keep posting content?

At the moment I'm at 71 subscribers and am looking towards reaching 100, I then hope I gain another 100 in a much quicker time and so on.

YouTube's algorithm has a lot to do with this concept. The more subscribers you have and the more views you have on a video, the more YouTube will pick you up in its algorithm and promote you. You will show up more under suggested videos or channels, recommended, etc. So yes. Also, when you have a large amount of subscribers, you have more people likely to promote you or follow you on social media and tell their friends etc. It all leads to more subscribers :)

Yeah basically what Brittany said, but keep in mind they have to be active subscribers. Otherwise the algorithm takes into account the fact that most of your subs aren't watching your uploads and this will go against you.

So all these fools running around making up the numbers with sub for sub requests, well thats actually hurting their channel.

I mean, I would say yes for me personally so far. However as solid said it helps if they're active because they'll give your videos views by default that will help them rank better on keywords and perhaps be more likely to be suggested on other channels videos. On my channel I play this game called Castle Crush and when I first started I had to do a lot of work myself to rank on that keyword. With the subs I've gained now they help me rank mostly #1 every time on that keyword and in turn that helps me gain more subs.

Subscribers can help make more subscribers but there are still ups and downs, its' not always more subs this week than there were the last.

I've realized the more subscribers someone has the more likely another person is to subscribe to that channel. A lot of people automatically assume because someone has a low amount of subs their content is trash, that isn't true what so ever. My shout out series promotes smaller youtubers. I've came across a lot of good small channels which deserve a lot more.

Thanks guys, these are all really good points. I didn't even think about it in terms of having more subscribers works in a social way as well; people telling their friends about you, more subscribers looks like you're posting better content etc.

I know I have, in the past, not thought about subscribing to someone if I see they only have a few subscribers. Now I can see from the other side how annoying that is! :banghead:

I think about this all the time and I agree 100%. I remember I noticed a particular youtube couple hit 500k about 6 months ago or so. Now they're about 2.5M and it's like howwww the heck did you guys do that so quickly?! Lol.

Subscribers do not make more subscribers, they cant resubscribe. Views make more subscribers it opens you up to finding new people to join. Never rely on your subscribers to bring in your views. If you had 20,000 subs you might get 1000-2000 subscribers to watch.

I'd go with yes they can grow quicker, as long as they follow the "best practices". Youtubers that have a lot of subscribers but aren't posting videos a lot, aren't going to grow as fast.

I think it is one important factor. Think about whenever you visit a channel, if you see 500,000 subscribers you know it's a popular channel with popular videos so you are more likely to go through and see the content and probably end up subscribing yourself. Content will always be king but having the subscribers absolutely helps.
