Do looks matter when it comes to YouTube?

Just watched the iJustine vid on her finding out her blood type. I see your argument clearly now............................
 
This is a topic i am very sensitive on.

I wholeheartedly believe that looks play a huge role (in the beginning), because lets be honest, humans are shallow and judge on looks. I make hilarious comedy videos and im doing great, but i can guarentee, if i had justin bieber's hair style, id have at least twice the number of subscribers.

The biggest proof of this is; The majority of male youtube vloggers, have a female audience rate of at least 70%, some at 90%. Even if their videos are horrible, it doesnt matter.

But quality videos > looks, in the long run; but looks > quality videos in the beginning.

I should just do my videos shirtless from now on >_>
 
I say it can be looks in some cases but I would have to say that content rules over all else in this case.
I also would assume it could be a combo of both in some cases.
 
Hell yah they do brah. Think about it do you watch the hot girl or the average looking chubby one on youtube? Works both ways. Not trying to be brash just trying to tell the complete truth
 
The same goes for sexuality, some youtubers wont admit their sexuality in fear of losing some fan or their "fan girls". lol

One screw up is what most people fear. So I would highly agree on that statement. I mean if I were to suddenly hate mlp I'd prob lose a huge chunk of my fan base if it got public.

I generally don't show myself on my videos, I have no need to really - although people can see what I look like from my logo!
