Do Dislikes Affect YouTube Video Search Rankings or is it a Myth?

Holy hell I should have asked my YouTube Space consultant this question.:stomp:
That said, I haven't had a dislike in a while though, and for that I'm grateful.

I've said in the past that they help. My logic is simply that in order for someone to have disliked your video, they must have clicked on it and while there is no guarantee, the watchtime is some, not zero. As a result, this is a help, not a hindrance. I don't believe or claim that the physical act of disliking is an assistance in any way. It is unlikely YouTube would factor that into the algorithm. None of this will have a measurable impact though. I only ever bring it up as a way to minimize the feelings of negativity people have when they start out and get their first dislike. :P

This thread is from 2014, and a lot has changed in the YouTube algorithm since this discussion. If you would like to discuss this further, please create a new thread for 2018.
