Dislikervation, What Is It and How YOU can achieve it!

People dislike videos for a whole host of reasons. It's always interesting to me to see the videos where I get dislikes. Often, it's on videos I think are pretty uncontroversial, so I guess they're disliking because they didn't get the information or the experience they liked. I haven't gotten a lot of dislikes on any one video yet. I suspect when I do, it's going to sting quite a bit.

You will be surprised of how many of those dislikes come from the same person with multiple accounts.

Honestly, when I got my first dislikes, my only concern was about what effect they would have on my search rankings. When I couldn't find any evidence that they had any negative impact at all, I starting bragging about the number of dislikes I got. My most popular video is one featuring an evil/demonic Elsa and it basically says that each time someone dislikes the video, they are sacrificing themselves to her and making her stronger. A lot of people have replied to that comment and liked it.

With content like mine, dislikes just tell me that I succeeded in getting a strong reaction out of people.

LOL, way to go! This has been one of my fears, but I will get over it by publishing my first video soon and not caring about what will happen after that. Thanks for sharing!

This post is so great! Thank you for it. My first two videos got loads of dislikes INSTANTLY that I posted it and when I started sharing it around. I was immediately disappointed because I thought that the content that I produced was pretty good (by my standards haha), but clearly not by others. I actually took that as more of a motivation to push myself and better my process in writing and making videos. So really - I took the dislikes as a key inspiration! Obviously it stings at first, but the best part about it is that it's so easy to move on because you know your next video will be even better

You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it! It is very motivating and in my opinion (and experience) it's helps give you a "thicker skin" when it comes to the internet. When I first started it really got to me what others thought but now I know that it's okay for someone to not like your videos. That's just how the world works. When you're first starting out on YouTube, it doesn't take much to discourage you. You second guess yourself constantly and you're always wondering if your next video will be as good as your last. Your YouTube stats fluctuate up and down like an emotional roller coaster and you can feel yourself burning out real quick. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse......BAM you starting getting dislikes on your videos.

I know some of you are thinking, "Who the heck cares about dislikes, you should be doing YouTube because you love making videos and nothing else."

Even though this is true, every person who has ever started a YouTube channel knows that feeling of dread when you get your first dislike. It puts a lot of negative thoughts in your head and you start doubting yourself more than ever. (Yes, we've all felt this way over 1 dislike don't try to deny it. lol)

I have some bad news though. This 1 dislike thing will never go away, in fact it's actually going to increase as you grow. The more people that start watching your videos, the more reasons they will find to dislike it. It's just the big ol' circle of YouTube life, there's no way to avoid it.

Now we finally get to this big word that I just made up on the top of my head "Dislikervation". The motivation that you need to keep going no matter how many freakin' dislikes you get! Clever huh? Yeah I didn't think so either.

In order to achieve Dislikervation, you need to do the following 3 things:

(1) Remember the REAL reason you started YouTube - It's so easy to get caught up in YouTube numbers, don't torture yourself.. please. YouTube is a lot of work and takes time. You're not going to get it overnight.

(2) Understand what dislikes really mean - They mean absolutely nothing, in my opinion. Especially when you're first starting out. It's a shiny piece of troll bait and nothing else. Five likes and two dislikes, is that really telling you anything? When you get in the big view and subscriber numbers, THEN you can actually look at your like:dislike ratio and tell something from it. Also, dislikes also count as viewer interaction and therefore ranking your video higher. Yay, I found a good thing about dislikes!

3) Remember these words if nothing else in this whole entire post: You are never going to please everyone.. never. You might have the best videos on the face of the planet, but there is always going to be that one person or ten that disproves.

I know this may seem like common sense, but I think it's a good reminder not only for myself, but for anyone else that may be feeling down or discouraged. Keep doing what you're doing no matter what!

Really great post, we've all been there. It's definitely worse just starting out, but the more it happens the more you realize how little it matters (unless you are getting more dislikes than likes on a regular basis, then maybe it's time to re-evaluate).

Two facts will always remain as long as youtube is a live: You can't please everyone and trolls will live forever.

Don't even get me started on reddit... it's like walking on eggshells over there sometimes depending on what subreddit your in... I have had good experiences as well, though.
