What equipment should I get for a gaming channel? Also when I do start are there specific social media's I should use?

You should invest in:
1) Good mic (Blue Snowball would work for beginners)
2) Console capture card
3) Good PC
4) Editing software
5) Your time in researching SEO, editing, etc.
Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Google Plus are my favorite places to advertise.

Well I've always been a console guy never really did computers but my brother in law knows a guy that can build me one I just to buy the parts. What would be a good build?

It all depends on what you're going to be using it for. I recommend a MINIMUM of the following:
1) 8gb RAM
2) 2.5 gHz quadcore processor
3) GeForce 650 or better
4) 500gb hard drive (SSD is the best option but is a little more expensive)
Not a requirement, but I recommend MSI when it comes to motherboards. Good luck man
