I moved my exported videos from macbook hard drive to my external hard drive

However when I've ejected the external hard drive I delete my videos off my macbook as I don't want them taking up space so I put in trash and empty trash.

I thought they were gone but when I go into iMovie in theatre they are still there and still play?

Have I not deleted them properly? Or is this normal?

I need them to be gone as I don't want them taking up space.

Also, another question :
Once the finished videos are exported and saved am I able to go back in an edit them?

I movie automatically saves the projects in Theatre, and you should still be able to see the last project you were working on in the timeline. This is normal, to completely get rid of them delete them off Theatre and clear your timeline.

Will still having them in the theatre take up memory?

And once my videos are exported and moved to external hard drive are they able to go into them and edit them?

Ummm... not completely sure... Just if you delete them then there is no possibility of taking up memory.

It depends on how you imported into iMovie - it probably copied the raw footage into iMovie and converted into the correct codec for easy editing.

If you would like to get rid of it, go into Finder, click your username in the left panel, enter the 'Movies' folder, and the delete the iMovie Library from this location.

Bear in mind this will remove all projects from iMovie etc.

A better way to edit is to work directly off of the external drive. In other words, redirect iMovie to the external drive and it will store the iMovie library there instead. Simply attach the drive when editing, then remove it once done. Nothing will be saved to your laptop at all.

It does still take up memory. I had this exact problem earlier this week. I tried installing Yosemite and it said not enough space which was wild because I keep EVERYTHING on external hard-drives so theoretically my computer should only have application and app files on it. But it turned out that iMovie was keeping copies of all my stuff because it imports it which in hindsight is obvious but I didn't realize it at the time. So if you want to get rid of any clips and movies you've ever had in iMovie you have to select the movie from your Theatre and delete them and then ALSO trash your events from the Not-Theatre page (Whatever it's called lol) and then empty your trash and they'll be completely gone

Hi I'm having this problem again :(

When I delete events I can't see them in the trash afterwards?

I thought I deleted all the files but my laptop says a lot of memory filled up with video which is so weird as I deleted them all and put them into my external hard drive I don't understand what I'm doing wrong
