Date Recorded?

When uploading a video, you are given the option to add the "date recorded".

To date, I have done this with all my videos. My question is - does anyone know what sort of impact providing this information makes?

If I'm uploading a video from a recent event that took place days before, I could see this being beneficial. However, I also upload videos of content I recorded 3-4+ weeks in the past and not related to a certain event. In this case, I could see that providing this info may hurt me.

Does anyone have any info on how providing or omitting this information helps/hurts?

I do it too. I think it may just be used as metadata if you download your video from YouTube, I'm not really sure but that's what I imagine it is for.

Yup, I also just thought it was for meta-data, but I don't know for sure...

But (now, not so much anymore =P ) secretly I also do it because I like data, the more details that are registered, the better. Though I'm not sure if I, or mostly just youtube/google, will be able to get something useful from this particular info... :O_o2: :)

My concern is that entering a significantly older date than when the video was uploaded would make the youtube algorithms view the video as inferior to other similar videos uploaded around the same time yet with more recent recorded dates.

Maybe I'm looking too much into this, but as a data junkie myself, I feel that it has to be used for more than just reference. I appreciate all the feedback.

... But maybe videoes completely without a date will have an even bigger (negative) impact on the algorithms?!
Okey, we have to see some documentation on the algorithms, if it's open for the public?

I agree with that which is why I've been entering it no matter what so far...just wanted to see if anyone else had more insight on this...until then, I'll just keep putting it in there
