Custom URL Questions - Help!

Asia's Redheaded Step-Child
Hey guys, so when I go on my Google+ profile, I get a notification saying I'm eligible for a custom URL. I would assume this is just for my G+ profile, since I believe you need 500 subscribers before you can custom URL your YouTube channel, but when I click it, it also tells me my YouTube channel will be changed to reflect this too (it'd be youtube.com/c/myurl). I have no experience with Google/YouTube's new URL system, so I'm slightly confused - is that the same thing as changing my YouTube's URL (which, again, I thought you needed 500 subscribers/linking an official website in order to do so)? Is this youtube.com/c/myurl the one I want, or isn't it youtube.com/user/myurl? So are they the same, if not, what makes them different? Also, is it normal that Google has given me a preset URL (currently AriaInthavong) that I can't change? I can only add some extra characters/numbers to the end of it...

Sorry for these questions, just making sure I'm going about this the right way. Thanks for any help you guys can give me, thanks!

Ya so when I got my custom URL it gave me three options which were:
"/c/Fezstar"
"/c/Fezstar2"
"/c/Fezstar1234"
I was like, BRUH LET ME CHOOSE!

The best way to see if it would effect your YouTube channel is by going to your Youtube creator studio and looking for any new notifications telling you that you can get a new URL :p!

I think Fezstar1234 would be for the best... but remember to add xX at the beginning and Xx at the end, it will look a lot cooler and people will respect You for that!
xXFezstar1234Xx - isn't this just epic?!

but seriously... I don't really understand how the custom url requirements work... they say that if You link Your channel to Your website then You also can get a custom URL. I did that some time ago but no custom URL for me yet :/

It's really screwy actually and somehow I managed to come out the other end with my custom URL so hopefully I can help answer your questions somewhat.

If it says your Youtube channel URL will be changed as well, that's the Youtube custom URL. If you're not at 500 subs nor have you linked a website, I'm not sure how you got that offer as I was under the impression that one of those two things had to be true for their system to offer you a URL. That is the custom URL that you want now. Youtube has done away with the /user/ subdomain so it's all /c/ now for new URLs. Only older channels will still use the /user/ one.

It is normal for them to give you a preset; it is usually based on your Google+ name. From what I've read elsewhere online, you can somehow deny their offer of that URL, then change your Google+ name to the one you want, then wait for them to offer you another custom URL. Failing all that, you can send them a feedback and get it sorted that way which worked for me.

I hope that sheds some light at least..

I don't have 500 subs, but I filled out that info and received a custom URL. Maybe I'm a glitch in the system?...maybe I am... :O
