Hey guys, today I took a step toward promoting my channel. After spending a few week creating what I think are decent videos I went to a few ad programs mostly Google & Reddit.

I wanted to create a topic over looking what I have gained from my ADventures (Get it:P).

Currently:
Newish channel toward gaming, 2 or so weeks old.
5,000Views
32Subscribers as of today.

After a day or so I'll update this thread with my results from my campaigns. But before then have you guys ever tried using ads not to make money to to promote your channel? Maybe you can give some tips to others who are trying it out?
 
Damn that is some quick growth you have already. MMO's really do have large audiences so advertising more could have some interesting results. Definitely would like to see the results of your campaign~
 
I've tried AdWords before, I got some viewership from it but not enough for how much it costs. What I would recommend is really targeting ads towards whatever niche you are aiming for. Post your findings when you're done! Would love to hear what happens.

Hey guys, 12hours ago I had posted I wanted to share my results from ad promotion, And while my campaign still has a day left my campaign is some wheres between 34-37hours now and I feel like i have enough information to share my results.

I'd like to say that despite adwords being the biggest and most known source of self promotion i spent very little of my time and resources on it. As such my results where almost all thanks to reddit's self ad system.

Using reddit's system after creating my ad (Making it look good, & engaging) I then decided to narrow my ad to sub reddits only fitting my category of MMORPGs, which turned out to be around 6-7 sub reddits, Then adding sub reddits that I felt I'd have some kinda cross interest with, such as grand thieft auto reddits and only online type video games. Just making sure in my ad they know I'm talking about MMORPGs.

The idea behind this was to avoid any places (Specific to reddit) that may have gotten me traffic but overall wouldn't gain me followers.

My channel results:
Nearly 7,000views
247 subscribers.

That's an increase of 2,000views in less then 2days, and 200+ of those were people who want to see more and engage in my channel. My ads featured 1 of my videos, which no doubt contributes to now my biggest video, but I was happy to see that a few of my videos also saw an influx of activity even if it was just 100views or such.

While this is impressive I differently think if I had a greater surplus of videos advertising with a small niche in mind might have been even more successful. So why I can't argue I'm ecstatic to see 200+ subs in a crazy small amount of time.

I think what I've gained from this is after my campaign with reddit & adwords I'll put my focus on producing videos & try this again in a few months.

Thank you for sharing your results, they are very impressive. As a kids toy channel we don't currently use reddit (although I have an account setup) as I found there does not seem to be much interaction or subreddits for kids channels and toys. Frankly, being honest, I've never used reddit before, even before the YouTube, so I don't know much about it. But reading threads here, people say to be very careful not to self-promote on reddit and leave 10 comments for every one of your own promotional links. So from what I've read, it seems the reddit community does not welcome self-promotion too much (once again this is my understanding of threads I have read here).

However you have got fantastic results from reddit advertising, lots of subs and engagement. So does that mean the reddit community is ok with advertisements promoting videos and channels? If so I would definitely be interested in having a closer look at reddit and seeing if there are family/kids/toys/playground orientated reddits to become engaged in and ultimately advertise in.

Once again thanks for sharing your results, they are extremely fantastic, especially the sub count compared to what one gets on adwords! Are you able tos share a link to where your reddit ads are appearing, I am curious to see how it works.

Ive been having trouble using reddit. They do frown against self promotion. You have to be an active member to get away with some level of self promotion. Theres a lot of categories and each category is its own universe with its own rules which is pretty annoying. I tried uploading an image to foodporn only to have it rejected because they require you to put the resolution size of the image on the title. A lot of arbitrary rules. I started trying to be more active on reddit in the last two weeks and i have gotten occasional traction. I posted a link to my 3d printing video in one of their 3d orinting subs and i was getting like steady 5-10 visits an hour for the rest of the day on a video that was not popular. So its promising. Im trying to build enough points so i can post in their videos section which is one of the main popular parts of the site. I dont know how many points i need for that but its a requirement to have a lot of points.

You earn karma points similar to yttalk bucks.

Thanks for the elaboration. It seems the OP did get good response to an ad, which is what i'm wondering about, why was it so well received, based on what you have said and what I have read elsewhere that reddit doesn't like promotion - what's bigger than a paid ad?

Reddit doesnt like spam or self promotion. But theyre ok with the ad spots. I think the ad spots are fairly new and they seem to be careful with how often they display it. Its a sponsored post at the top of the page but i dont always see an ad in there. Kind of like how fb used to be more sensitive on how much irrelevant stuff they displayed in your newsfeed.

I tried reddit ad before and had no success. But i think i just had the wrong content to advertise. I can see how it can be pretty good if you have content to fit the demographic. I could target my ad to some subreddits like toys. But it looks like that community has too many toy channels in there and not really my target audience. But yeah video games would be perfect.
