Creating Christian Material

I've considered making videos about Christianity, but it naturally wouldn't fit with my channel. I'd have to make another channel just for that, and I'm not ready to dedicate myself to it right now.

I'm a Catholic and I definitely let faith influence my channel! I think there's a balance between being too aggressive with our faith and hiding our faith from everyone outside of religious circles. A big goal of my channel is simply to promote dialogue, and especially to help people feel comfortable talking about faith issues. That being said, I myself am still getting used to talking about faith issues in public settings...

Do both. I'm thinking "The Prince of Egypt - Horror Version" or scenes from the ten commandments - Horror Version lol.[DOUBLEPOST=1455387312,1455387136][/DOUBLEPOST]
Any idea how I can reach out of more viewers.
Yeah. Post more controversial content. The only way to stand out is to be interesting and incite thought. The only thought you will incite by positing questions like 'Why did jesus have to die" is from those who already believe, and even then, many have heard that sort of thing before. Post a video questioning the age of the universe or Earth and you'll get people on both sides arguing back and forth with each other. Best way to grow. Create controversy.

What's funny is I think of Moses as more of a Jewish thing that Christianity also includes. And I'd do something like that, but I want to be careful not to in any way imply that any of the divine things were evil. That's what is so hard about making horror versions of Christmas songs. It would go against my own morals to demonize a song about God or Jesus, so I have to stick with songs about Santa or just instrumentals.

Well, the two kind of go hand in hand, no? The old testament is in the Christian Bible too. It's not as if Christians dismiss it and say "oh, that old testament is good and all, but the important stuff is in the new testament".

Yeah, I can see how that might be difficult. "Horror" doesn't necessarily imply "evil" though.

Controversy definitely is effective at grabbing attention, but I don't like when it encourages people to dig in their heels and yell at opposing viewpoints. To a certain extent that's unavoidable because internet culture, yay, but I'd rather there be a dialogue than an argument. Can you relate?

This is exactly what they say. The old testament is good for faith-increasing stories and for filling in blanks that aren't in the new, but the new is the actual "instructions" for how one should live. The old is more the back story.

My videos are made to try to imply "horror" and "evil" equally. They could all be described as "if this person in this video was evil". The Prince of Egypt might work, but the spin I'd put on it would be that the Egyptians were way more evil than made out to be and it was that much better they got out of there.

Of course, I completely agree. This all depends on the tone of the person presenting the viewpoint though. Present your beliefs with any hint of superiority or knock someone else's with any hint of condescension and dialogue quickly becomes a war. If you want to avoid those wars, the safest (and possibly best, especially on Youtube) bet is to not engage in any kind of discussion at all about religion. There is simply not enough to be gained by it, given the fact that 99% are not truly open minded.

I guess it depends on how you were brought up because my pastors were never so dismissive of the old testament, nor did they ever imply that it was much less important than the new testament (and certainly not that it was mostly a Jewish thing). Many of the sermons from the pastor(s) in my Presbyterian church were based on the old testament. I was at a Catholic mass a few years ago with a friend (it was his church) and the sermon was all about the old testament and the new, and how without the old testament the new wouldn't make sense. The priest also spoke about how Jesus referenced the old testament as important and that he was not there to destroy it (or something like that) but that his word would complete it. This was all in New York. Maybe the importance of the old testament to Christians varies by geography or simply from parish to parish.

I think speaking to individuals when they are looking for answers is the best way. Rather than make a ton of videos on the subject why not do one video explaining your beliefs and direct people to comment if interested to know more. offer to respond to all comments of people interested and that keeps the discussion in one place, it won't really affect your channel? It's much less in their face then.
anyways just a random idea.

Let people speak their mind even if it's very opposed. And never rise to an argument. Good tips
