Cover hands with gloves or not?

I've Got It
Hi everyone. I hope I'm posting this in the right section! It's a strange question but hope you can all help me with your advice.

My channel (StuntMango) is very young, with 18 videos about my obsession with LEGO. I do reviews, unboxing, builds etc with my hands only. So they are my actors.

I took the decision at the start to not show my hands but rather to use gloves. This is partly to be different, but mainly because I don't like videos with hands that distract due to their condition. I wouldn't say my hands are awful to look at, i keep them clean and tidy etc, but im pretty critical of the way they look. When I was researching before starting the channel I noticed many big channels had guys' hands that were distracting because of the dings and scratches, hairs, marks, whatever. Hypercritical perhaps?

So I use gloves. I've used different types and settled on some fun yellow and black ones that I use now. (in a strange way they remind me of LEGO minifigure hands). I really had problems selecting gloves because they needed to provide decent grip to manipulate LEGO blocks for builds.

I don't get many comments, but a few times now people ask why I wear the gloves.

My question to you is: would you consider gloves a poor choice and if so, would you make the switch now back to hands, before the channel has more videos and might get bigger and more noticed?

Maybe I'm slightly OCD about hands, but I'm willing to admit I was wrong and switch to bare hands if enough of you think it's the smart choice.

PS: I'm not sure I'm allowed to link a video or my channel so if you want to check out my videos to decide then search for StuntMango channel and watch the latest videos or the gateway video :)

Importantly, thank you in advance for taking the time to answer. I do appreciate it :)

I do understand what you mean about hand condition and showing a close up to them.
So unless you regularly manicure/shave/moisturise in order to keep your hands impeccable then I see no hard wearing gloves.
I would though want to wear light(white?)/unobtrusive gloves though. Bright yellow gloves may distract from the actual object in question.

Nothing against wearing gloves, and the reason "I don't want my hands to distract from the main subject" is legitimate.

I agree on this, standard white gloves should work better, they "jump" less to the eye.

Check the link to your channel...its not working

Thank you so much to everyone who has replied.

In my early videos i used white cotton gloves but they have terrible grip.

I'll look into what options I have, including switching to no gloves!

Also, i must work out why my channel link at the bottom of my post doesn't work. I didn't realise it put that there automatically.

Thank you again! :)

I'm laughing as I read this because I know what you mean! When hands are the only thing to focus then you notice things! It never really bothers me but I do notice cuts and bruises and wonder how they got the injury. The only one time that I was a little put off was when this very bulky and hairy hand was used in a video where a doll was undressed to take a bath (my kids love those dolls bathed in slime/M&M videos). It was just too strange for me!

I think wearing gloves is fine! Maybe it will be the signature look of your channel.

I think wearing gloves is a good way to keep distraction off of them, but also as you said, it makes you unique and can be part of your specific style!

Maybe you can play on the effect, do something funky that no one has done before. Like really masculine hands with cute Hello Kitty nails. Get people talking and sharing...

Thank you everyone again for all your considered responses. Much good advice to sift through! I do appreciate it :)[DOUBLEPOST=1500300639,1500275431][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, I believe I have fixed the Channel link in my signature now. It's 6kram66 as my user, but StuntMango is the channel name. Thank you all again.

You can do gloves like Hulk if you worry about you hand condition .I did my videos in semi-gloves and now thinking to stop wearing them.To me people want to imagine that they are opening present o box and gloves just distracting them and taking illusion away. Take a look on some coloring pages channels and you will see a lot of hairy hands with good sub count and views.
