Copyright on book readings ?

So i had a idea earlier but i just want to find out if it breaches any copyright infringement stuff.

Basically i want to do readings of books ( well more of a complete translations ) where i will do a chapter of half chapter from a book and basically tell the story from a different point of view. If i am completely changing the wording and style am i breaching any copyrights ? Im gonna guess that i am and if so is there any way around this or anyway of doing it so i am not breaching copyrights

I don't think there is a way around that I think that would still be a copyright issue. But you can do any book written before 1920 something :)

Urgh, i have no plans to monetize it and i dont want to make money off it lol i just think i could make some really funny content with it :( i just dont want it to become a problem further down the line etc etc

I don't see why there would be a copyright issue if it's 100 percent original and only takes inspiration from the book, I' obviously not a lawyer, I think derivative work may apply?

I reread your post. If the book is just the inspiration that wouldn't be copyright, and it sounds like you are making it your own, so it should be fine :)

@TheBatteryChicken What do you mean by a complete translation? If you're translating you might run into some issues. If you just mean you're rewriting and reading from a different point of view, that's like fan fiction, which is fine. Will you be reading the actual book too? If so, you might run into some issues there.

Basically im gonna re tell the story in the way that a london gangster would talk and tell the story, so instead of the book being universal it will instead be full of slang and told in a different accent/dialect then what it originally was. Pretty much every sentence would have to be changed and not one thing would be read as it already is in the book

Oh, I see. Well, seems like that would fall under parody and fair use. Good luck :)
