Copyright Concerns

Watchoo lookin' at trick
Hey guys, so I had a question. I've been looking into copyright for parodies and such, specifically YouTube copyright which seems to be more lenient, and I just have a question. In one of my videos I'm using Pokemon sprites from the actual games, as in artwork from the games. Other than that, the sounds, voices, music, etc... is all copyright free. Supposedly this is allowed but I'm not quite sure about it still as I'm using actual artwork from the games. My alternative is to just draw the sprites out on my own which I know would be allowed, but of course it takes a lot longer. So am I okay to keep using the sprites or should I suck it up and just re-draw? If anyone can help answer this it would be much appreciated! Or if anyone could guide me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks!

I think your gonna have to redraw, I'm afraid. Those sprites belong to Game Freak, after all. THOUGH you may be okay using them for parodying purposes, but there's no guarantee there.

You won't have any copywriter problems if you're just using the Sprites.

Awesome dude I really hope so! But yeah I was wondering since so many people use the entire game footage and stuff, so just using the sprites I assumed shouldn't be too much of an issue but I just wanted to be on the safe side. What have you use sprites for before?

The only way you can get problems with sprites is if you use it as "art" and claim it as your own.
T shirts are an example. Put a sprite on there and you're liable to being sued.
