Converting BIG .mkv files to .avi help!!!

Because it's a game recording of about a few hours, the file sizes are huge, not small. I know a lot about file types and all that. .avi is what I need right now.[DOUBLEPOST=1389614400,1389614157][/DOUBLEPOST]@Styxie unfortunately, MPEG streamclip doesn't work with .mkv files.
@AndrewReviewYou it's not working for me even with the big file size checked.

I think the files are literally so big it's confusing programs. I know the files aren't corrupted, as I have a shorter .mkv video file from the same recording session that works with Handbrake and the video converter I've always used.
No, I've converted 12-15gb files before. Was this recorder a Hauppauge?

Yeah but that doesn't change a thing, converting the MKV to AVI will probably increase the filesize even further.

The funny thing is that MKV is actually a very small video format, leaving you with very small file sizes that are great for internet video, they can contain subtitles without the need of additional files and such, and normally an MKV file will be smaller than an AVI file. Are you talking about non-compressed MKV or something?

I would convert it to MP4, which has a small filesize and good quality.
Depends

Ah really? Wasn't aware! Thanks for telling me :)
(MPEG streamclip also for some reason is finicky with my computer so I've only used it on rare occasions.)

Big .avis are compatible with the programs I need the videos for. [DOUBLEPOST=1389645670,1389645584][/DOUBLEPOST]

Nope. Hmm.
Yeah, I really don't know what the dealio is with these video files.
Thanks to everyone for helping anyways.

Download "Any Video Converter". File size doesnt matter and you can convert it to just about any other file type including .avi
