Converting BIG .mkv files to .avi help!!!

obscurimity

YTT's Tanager
For some odd reason, my game recorder recorded my last game as a .mkv file, rather than .avi.
The .mkv files are huge, like 8 to 10 gigs.
I have no idea how I can fix this, none of my programs are compatible with the files. I have some programs that support .mkv files, but the files are so huge, they can't take them.

Any solutions?
I appreciate it.

Handbrake, if you use Handbrake you need to make sure you tick the large file size option though.
I'll give it a try. Thanks. I'll post saying if it works or not.[DOUBLEPOST=1389580018,1389579596][/DOUBLEPOST]

How do I choose the large file size option? I can't seem to find it.

The funny thing is that MKV is actually a very small video format, leaving you with very small file sizes that are great for internet video, they can contain subtitles without the need of additional files and such, and normally an MKV file will be smaller than an AVI file. Are you talking about non-compressed MKV or something?

I would convert it to MP4, which has a small filesize and good quality.

Because it's a game recording of about a few hours, the file sizes are huge, not small. I know a lot about file types and all that. .avi is what I need right now.[DOUBLEPOST=1389614400,1389614157][/DOUBLEPOST]@Styxie unfortunately, MPEG streamclip doesn't work with .mkv files.
@AndrewReviewYou it's not working for me even with the big file size checked.

I think the files are literally so big it's confusing programs. I know the files aren't corrupted, as I have a shorter .mkv video file from the same recording session that works with Handbrake and the video converter I've always used.
