Continuous Lighting Soft Boxes Peak Brightness

Is it normal for continuous lights in my case soft boxes with daylight balanced bulbs to take nearly 2 minutes to reach their peak brightness?

I thought continuous lighting meant you switch them on and they stay at their peak brightness constantly from the moment they are on. I would love to find out if this is normal. I timed it and mine take roughly 1:45 to reach their maximum brightness.

Thanks for any help with this.

If they're CFL then it's just how the technology works. Yes, they are a source of continuous light, but CFLs have a minute or so of warmup time to reach peak brightness.
If it's LED, you will have immediate peak brightness. Light Emitting Diodes do not need to warm up.

Thanks Paul, they are, I wasnt sure if thats how they were meant to work, I had it in my head that when you switch them on they are constant, I could look into LEDs instead but I have never used them for lighting before and that would be me being very fussy over a 2 minute warm up time :D

Halogen lights have the same issue with warmup time. Technically LEDs do as well, but the warmup time is so brief that you don't notice it.

I noticed on new bulbs they mention 10 seconds warm up time, I have had these bulbs for roughly 2 years so not sure if there would be any noticeable difference in performance over time. I also wonder if it could be the brand as these ones were fairly cheap.
