Continued Harrassment

Wow, do we need some help here.

First let me state that we're not whining, looking for attention, etc.

Someone has taken a negative interest in our fairly new gaming channel.

A week or more ago, someone thumbs-down bombed us after making a negative comment on a comment we made on someone else's channel. They went with multiple accounts (more likely) or a group of friends (less likely) and in the span of about 10 minutes, thumbs-down bombed almost all of our videos. Being a new channel with only 12 or so likes, 11 dislikes really makes our videos seem unpopular. This is a big hindrance.

At the advice of some people on this forum, we completely ignored the troll/thumbs-down bomber and carried on.

This seemed to work as the next five or so videos didn't get ANY thumbs down (as is usual for us).

Then, today, the so and so returned.

They made two negative comments on one video (which is fine), but then proceeded to thumbs-down bomb that one video 16 times, this time. I know it was them because the comments and ALL 16 thumbs down appeared within 10 or so minutes (we watch our stats like a hawk).

I had enough and reported that user to YouTube as someone harassing us. I explained in the report about the thumbs-down bombings.

My fear is that there isn't enough proof that that one account is behind these attacks, as they are clearly using multiple accounts to thumbs-down bomb our videos.

Again, this is detrimental to our operations as a hard-working channel. We put in nearly full-time hours while having real full time jobs and families.

We want to protect ourselves. Ignoring this person is what we will continue to do in the public, but what else does anyone suggest? There's no way for us to PROVE it on our end. Only YouTube could prove the thumbs-down bomber with IP addresses.

Could anyone help us with some real advice? These thumbs-down bombs are killing us.

Much thanks in advance,
Mike from TVSBOH

It's hard making friends on YouTube and a Herculean effort to make friends. I learned long ago to avoid giving negative comments or even constructive criticism on videos. I'm assuming you're fairly new since you mentioned this is a new channel, so consider this a lesson. :)

Egos are fragile and this is magnified online, it seems. Trust me, I know. I was once a very blunt and frank commentator until realizing just how extreme people are online. My experience on YouTube since has been a lot more enjoyable by being positive and not commenting when I have nothing positive to say.

Hope this helps in the future. Unfortunately, it won't help in dealing with your new "friends".

Good luck!

I agree you can disable until they forget about you. and making them responses can bring on a lot of hate.

I will take into consideration disabling the rating system for now, although it pains me as we were getting only thumbs-up on our videos which looks good. If you disable the ratings system, you risk looking like you're hiding from thumbs down. It may still be a preferred option.

But let me say this. I didn't MAKE a negative comment on a video. I never do. I'm fairly mature and smart about that sort of thing.

What I was saying was that I made a comment (a positive comment, no less) on a big youtuber's video. The harasser made the negative comment to MY comment.

Thanks for the advice, non-the-less.

Totally misunderstood you. :)

Hope they ease up on you soon.

Thanks man. I appreciate your support and the support I always find on these forums. Appreciated. Makes me feel less alone in this battle!

Thanks again.

I get what you mean. But, if your content is good/positive then it shouldn't feel like you have to hide anything.

I understand that getting dislikes on your videos can suck, especially when you put hard work into your videos. Also people dislike your videos for dumb reasons. I hope they get rid of the rating system or replace it with something better to prevent things like this.

Thanks Stef. I hope they do consider something more positive. Facebook didn't buy into the thumbs-down situation just for these reasons.

Haha, Matt. True enough!
