CONFIRMED: Pay to subscribe channels

Ehhh, I really don't care, its not affecting me, but if they start making me pay for my RomanAtWood. I am going to throw a tantrum.

They better be putting content worth the $5/month, and I hope my favorite LP's don't do this...

inb4 pewdiepie starts with it

I don't think YouTube is doing this, it will likely be an option that partners can opt-in on, especially for second channels. That's on top of the many corporate channels getting in on this.

Stupid idea if you ask me

Why is that?

Why is that?
As someone else already said why pay for something that more than likely hundreds if not thousands of other people are doing for free

I hate this so much. The point of YouTube is to upload and watch videos and to subscribe-for FREE. This is just ruining the site.

I very much hope not.

Well, like I said, this will most likely be adapted by either corporations with brand recognition (like CBS or Fox), or as second channels for already large YouTubers. Under that assumption, you'd be gaining access to videos produced by someone you already like. For example, if I made ForeverAlonePrick pay-to-subscribe, then you'd just not watch my content, and would never care about me. However, if I make my channel free, then make a second channel with some exclusive content, then if you already like my and want to continue watching my content you'll have to pay. It's that idea that the first gram is always free, it lures you in and makes you already like my unique content.

As I've said before, this will most likely only be used by corporate channels, which I never considered part of the "YouTube community", and second channels of main YouTubers, who will need to keep their main channels free. It's something extra, not the new direction that YouTube is going. It's similar to the YouTube rental program, that didn't break YouTube!

Why is that?
Well because, if any partner can just, "Opt in" Then one of my favorite youtubers just might decide to do so. Leaving me to have to unsubscribe, because I can guarantee my Dad will not pay for a subscription to one youtube account. And if its someone like Olga Kay or Tobuscus or Lamar Wilson or someone that I REALLY enjoy. Then thats going to suck major butt.

I don't expect channels like Tobuscus, PewDiePie, TheSyndicateProject etc. to do this because the fans would just click that unsubscribe button and watch someone else for free. You never know, some of them might go for this and if they do then they're assholes for doing that. Pretty much a big "f**k you" to your subscribers. I think this pay to subscribe thing is just complete crap XD

Let's be honest here, this is Google, they want money.

There is no upside to this feature, it will result in less views for the people who se it, everyone will get lower CPM's, and people might be able to watch some of their favorite content anymore.

Youtube is primarily doing it for some of their original content videos they will be putting up soon. Now I think paying 5 dollars a month is ludacris.

Why? because how many channels do you think I watch? How many videos would they put out? Seems like an excessively high number for a channel.

If you can buy the game of throne episodes on Itunes for 40 dollars a season (1o episodes) or 9 hours of video. The young turks and others would have to have production value equal to that. Which I dont believe they do.

Now going forward, again, why would I pay for something I'm already getting for free? I have 25 subscribed channels that I just LOVE. But I'm not paying 125 dollars a month to watch them all.
