Computer Upgrade?

Well, for overclocking you need to make sure you have a compatible motherboard eg the ASUS Z7787-X is a good choice. Also you need about a 600W power supply, but I'd personally go 850W just to be safe. And also, if you don't wanna fry it, just push it to 4-4.5, and that should be pretty stable :) Also, there are really good cheap liquid cooler options available :)

My Z77 board is fine for overclocking so thats fine, think I could run it on my 750W so I don't have to go up to 850? I'll have a look around for a good cooler and price it all up. Think I can do it all for £300 hopefully :)

Alrighty, is the i7 - 3770K a good idea then, the only thing that bothers me is that its still 3.5GHz? I would go for the newer models coming out, but that requires me to get a whole new motherboard as its on a new socket [DOUBLEPOST=1369046996,1369046890][/DOUBLEPOST]

The systems great atm, but I'm getting a new HDD to store video files on soon so I thought I might see if I can speed up rendering times a bit. It still takes me a while to render somethings so any speed increase would be great :)
You can get these new HDDs called Hybrid Drives that have a little bit of Solid State memory on them, it apparently speeds everything up immensely and doesn't cost as much as an SSD.

Ok, I've had a look around and theres not a thread that specifically covers what I'm wondering. I'm thinking of getting a computer upgrade soon, and really want it to improve on the video editing side?

Theres a few things I could improve but I'm unsure on whether its the RAM that drives video editing or the CPU, or a mixture of both. Which one is more dominant in the process as I'll upgrade that first :)

Feel free to suggest any ideas for upgrading to make this more suited for video editing:

CPU: Intel i5-3570K 3.5GHz
GPU: AMD Radeon 7950 3GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB)
PSU: Corsair 750W
HDD: 1TB 7200RPM
SSD: 120GB (For OS/Vegas)

It's pretty much the same components i'm using to build my computer with once i get my money through :D

Really, I'll have a look as that sounds pretty good. If its more expensive than the 2TB HDD I'm getting it might not be worth it though :)

Make sure not to confuse him and tell him he should get an integrated liquid cooling system, because he might go out and buy a system that requires him to get a radiator and everything.

Also when you are OCing don't whack it up large amounts at a time, put it up slowly and test your core temps each time so as not to fry anything.[DOUBLEPOST=1369047909,1369047854][/DOUBLEPOST]

750 should be enough :) But it's always good to have some overhead, because as they say it's always better to have a bit of room to breath rather than having anything whacked out on full load all the time.

yap thats true :) just thought i should mention this ^^
Yeah haah, I'm sure its Adobe Premiere Pro that works off GPU, and Vegas Pro is CPU intensive :)[DOUBLEPOST=1369047940,1369047912][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yeah, 750 should work fine! :)[DOUBLEPOST=1369047972][/DOUBLEPOST]

No of course not, that was never my intention!

Haha I know you didn't mean to, I just give this kind of advice for a living and I know a LOT of people get confused if you aren't super specific xD

Haha that's true, I also give this kind of advice, I'm just used to linking people, I just can't do that here cause different countries and such, so I try my best :)

Ah fair enough, yeah it's kinda annoying. And the fact that different components cost different prices abroad, apparently hardware is dirt cheap in comparison to here in places in Eastern Europe.

Thanks guys for the input. I'll most likely get my new HDD, and then start saving up for the i7 3770K/cooler/ram. Hopefully then it can power through anything I throw at it :p
