I Love YTtalk
Hello all!

So, I've been looking to purchase a desktop to do some video editing with, I love my laptop, but she is starting to age and just can't perform as well as I'd like when rendering and also when recording with FRAPS. (ASUS G60Jx Laptop)

I was looking at this desktop that is on sale today on tiger direct for 800$

It is an Alienware
Alienware Model # - AX51-9302BK

If you want to google that.

I know that building is always cheaper, but I'm wondering how much cheaper it would be considering this guy is only 800 dollars and it has free shipping (a luxury I may not have if I order separate parts)

It is an alienware (which i usually stay away from due to price) but looking at the specs and with it being on sale, it almost seems like a steal!

My main concern is it's size, it is pretty tiny, I'd fear that it would overheat, however what I've read is that they perform surprisingly well in the temp department for their size.

The thing is nearly 1200 dollars on amazon right now.

Some quick Specs as quoted by tigerdirect
  • 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHz processor; ensures unbelievable computing competency
  • 8GB of DDR3 memory; runs multiple programs at a time
  • 1TB HDD; secures lots of applications
  • Blu-ray Player; plays and burns data in varied media formats
  • NVIDIA Geforce GTX 660; for excellent graphics
  • Windows 8 64-bit

I would never suggest alienware for a pre-built pc but I must say, that is an amzing price!

I also have to post, I have the high spec version of the x51 as my second PC and I must say internet connection is horrendous and one of the main reasons I needed a new PC.

Now only the crap Wireless card that comes with it that limits it to 500kb up and down. But where the card is placed stops it from getting a good signal :(

I am obliged to tell you to build a PC because it's awesome and would be a better bargain. But since I understand that not everyone is comfortable with that/doesn't have time, I'd still say that's overpriced. Have you heard of CyberpowerPC?

That's actually decent specs for that price. Remember on a home build you'd have to pay for a retail copy of windows which bumps the price a lot.

It`s a SFF (small form-factor) [made to be small and compacted not necessarily good]

i) It has no space in it for anything more but than a slightly better GPU
ii) It`s PSU is only 330 watts :(
ohh :/

It is definitely tiny, not much room for upgrading. I'm not sure how much I would be needing to upgrade however with its specs. I feel like by the time I'd want to start upgrading things, I'd may as well get a new PC. The main concern for me is no SSD room.

I'm also pretty confused about how it runs on a 330watt power brick. I feel like a system with those specs in it would need at least a 750watt psu. Anyone know why/how this is possible?[DOUBLEPOST=1367791774,1367791731][/DOUBLEPOST]Shane is your internet only bad on your wireless? Or even when you have it hardwired?
