Coming out to your Family and Friends...

My parents loved it. I actually make a few for them because I live in another country and they like to know what I am up to. When they came to visit I made a video on all the stuff we got up to and told them I missed them. So they enjoy them.

My flatmates and some workmates on the other hand think its pretty weird, and like to tease me about it. I don't think they realise it hurts my feelings when they joke about it I just laugh along.... and keep making videos :P I don't promote the fact I make them but I use my name so I'm easy for people to search for. It's what I like doing so most people are okay about it.

I waited until I got a partnership contract on my first channel to bring it up. The second I said I could make money playing video games, they were happy for me. It can be awkward though. I don't think my family has ever watched my videos though.

My parents had a slight idea that I made YouTube videos but they didn't really have an idea or thought much of it.

Then a couple of days before my birthday my I was watching YouTube videos on our television through the app on my ps3. While scrolling through my subscribed channels, my mom saw my banner which has a picture of me in it.

She told me to go back to it and she saw the thumbnails of all the videos I had uploaded. It was extremely AWKWARD! She called my dad over and she ld me to play one. I was like "Damn" in my head.

So I played one of my videos and they watched. My mom was laughing for some reason; because she couldn't believe that I made videos. Long story short we continued to watch more of my videos. My parents weren't mad. I don't even curse in my videos as far as my subscribers get to see LOL.
It was really wired the watch my YouTube videos with my parents.

What was it like when a friend or family member found out you are a YouTuber and their response to your videos?

I was probably like you in that I didn't really tell my friends about my YouTube channel. At first, it was probably because it was slightly embarrassing, as I was shy, but after a while it was a humility thing... I think. Even though my channel isn't impressive, I thought that telling my friends that I had a moderately successful YouTube channel would be taken as bragging. They only found out because I was asked, and I wasn't going to lie! And hey, everything turned out all right.

Being an adult already, I didn't have any problems with sharing my first video on my private facebook. People watched, gave me feed back and those that were interested kept watching, but I never ask my friends or family to sub or watch my stuff.

They know it's just a side hobby while I learn to film so they have been supportive so far.

I've always been very secretive about my interests in real life, I suppose sort of embarrassed by my nerdiness. I told my folks about my Youtube stuff back in October, when I was first looking into partnership. They're happy for my success, though I'm not sure if they quite understand it, haha. I've got a video uploading soon in celebration of 10K subs, and I'm going to post it on my personal facebook, to see how it goes and get the word out there. Hopefully the idea that I've sorta established myself cancels out any weirdness that people would find in it.

People at school knew I did videos... they loved them :D Then again, I always got nervous when the teacher was on YouTube, because it'd be embarrassing if my video was played in front of the whole class... as for my family, I'm sure my Dad watches my video, but my mom isn't that tech-saavy.. soo.. xD

My parents have no idea, all my friends already know. Tbh I don't think my parents would really understand, so unless it became my full time job, they would never know!
