Combining and reusing previous content

I've seen this done on many channels (particularly kids/toy channels) where the creator would rehash old content and mix/match/combine into longer duration videos and re-upload under a different title. I won't mention any names, but you can totally tell by simply looking at the recurring same thumbnails that are auto-generated. Doesn't YouTube have policies against re-uploading content and monetizing? Or is this permissible as long as the "new" video is altered in some way (ie. having another video appended before/after it).

Because of a mysterious YouTube bug that broke thousands of my videos, I am forced to re-upload huge amount of videos. YouTube knows about it and they said nothing against the fact that I am re-uploading exactly the same videos so they can be watched by people who experience the bug. I do it for the viewers and so far everything seems okay.

You need to make at leastone microscopic chanche in video - like cut duration on 1 second and youtube would not see it as copy.

Interesting to note. I notice many use this "strategy" of taking a hit video and making these slight adjustments only to post again within a few weeks/months later to cash in on a 2nd/3rd/nth round. I presume as long as visitors and watch time is accumulated, YouTube will not be overly concerned, especially if it's your own content.

Thanks for the replies!

republishing previously successful video do not guarantee you second successful run. It is all depend how Algorithm sees you channel for future projection of it profitability.

I have noticed this too. I think this a strategy to stay consistent with upload frequency and also videos that are longer I guess rank higher? I also observed some would have a very short clip that is new then merge it with old videos.

For kids channels, I think this makes sense. Kids have a short attention span (at least my kids ) so frequent switching keeps them engaged.

I actually started doing this since I cannot upload as frequently as I'd like.

Btw, your channel is doing great in a short period of time. Good job! My niece loves meru-chan but I haven't seen it in the usa.

Thanks very much for the follow up responses! So this practice seems permissible and good to know in case down the road we go on vacation or are crunched for time on uploading. Good to know!

Kawaii Toys, thanks for the kind comment. Yes, we just launched our channel last month. It seems to be gaining some decent traction, but then again, most of our views and subscriptions appear to be driven by fellow toy/children channels, so we'll see in time how it grows outside fellow creators. Have also taken a quick look at your channel and you guys are also doing quite well! Looks like you also started not too long ago. Will keep an eye on the channel and best of luck!

We have done this before.. most call it compilation videos. I have heard that youtube likes when creators reuse content. I don't know if this is true.. but in the kids niche.. kids rewatch everything, mine included! So, for the kids niche they seem to be able to use this to their benefit.
