I know I have tons of improvements to make. I make repair/shop related videos. I'm getting good watch time but 20h.59m in a single day the other day and 350+ daily views but it seems like something is holding people back from hitting the subscribe button. it seems to me for the traffic I'm getting my subscriber rate seems low.

I would applicate some criticism on my channel/video's with the goal of pointing out important area's that need improvement to increase subscriber rate.

thanks, and please don't hold back being afraid to hurt my feelings.

It's always good to remind your watchers at like every chance to subscribe!

Perhaps during the middle of your vids, remind them to subscribe!

Most people just get the info and go without thinking to sub! Your channel contains some pretty useful info! :D

middle of the video is a good idea. I do include asking for likes subscriptions and comments in the end of the video. but my audience retention always drops way off right as the outro starts. I have seen asking for it in the start of the video suggested before and noticed other youtubers doing that but that always seemed kind of weird to me to ask for subscriptions before they have even watched any of the content.

but then again the people who watch the video all the way to the end seem like the people who would be most likely to subscribe to the channel.

it seems like I should be doing a lot better than I am on subscribers to views/watch time ratio

the video I had planned to edit for this last upload I didn't because I realized when I went to edit it I forgot to shoot a intro. so I edited a different video instead. so I still need to shoot the intro for that one before I can edit/upload maybe I will try asking for subs in the intro and see if that helps.

here is my newest upload. I tried some new things. the meat and potato's content of the video is pretty short where it seems like normally I'm trying to find anywhere I can to cut time out of a video to keep it a watchable length. so this one I played with a bit curious to see how it goes. I also asked for subscribers very early in the video as suggested... any thoughts?

I don't think your subscriber count/growth is as bad as you think it is. In fact I think it's quite good. Give it time and people will stay.

I think your timing in your latest vid is good, although personally I would try opening with the dialogue intro, then going to the driving/music shot as a transition, because I'm guessing an intro that long might turn some people away.

Only other suggestion is to try framing the subscription ask around a very specific 'win' for the viewer. What's in it for them? Vs. to help your channel grow, if you could say something like 'I'm going to be posting an update to check back in on this repair next week, so subscribe to be sure you don't miss it.". Obviously that might not work or be true for every video, but the more ways you can tie them together, the better. But overall nice work.

DIY/help channels typically get lower subscription growth and retention anyways; search traffic and suggested videos will probably always represent most of your traffic, and there's nothing wrong with that. Good luck!

thank you for your input. my normal video's is a very quick verbal intro into the video saying what is going to be covered in the video then straight into the meat of it. this most recent one I was playing around with a little bit. short video to start with so I felt I had a little more time to play with.

the opening clip I originally thought I was going to put in the end of the video to voice over a outro on. well I never reviewed the footage till I sat down to edit the video itself and I had tried out a different camera on the content. I didn't realize there was a option on that camera to record without sound and I had recorded it without sound. so seems how I was going to have to voice over the meat of the video I wanted a natural audio intro and outro so I went back and re-recorded those and but didn't want to throw away what I thought was a cool clip I had put together for the video so I threw it in at the start.

intro, clip and then content may have been a better arrangement though. I think that clip was only 10-15 seconds if I remember right so probably not deal breaker either way for most people. but i think around 30 seconds to get to the meat of the video might in fact be too long. ill be very curious to study the audience retention graphs on this one once it becomes available in my analytics.

I guess where I feel my subscriber growth rate is low is not so much the rate I'm gaining subscribers compared to my current subscriber count but my rate of subscribers/view/watch time.

current 28 day analytics at the time of posting are-
24,745 watch mins
7,315 views
+50 subscribers

I guess when I look at other peoples stats I see lots of channels that have equal to or less total views than iv had in the last 28 days that are around my TOTAL subscriber count if not higher.

makes me wonder why I have less subscribers nearing 40k total channel views than many channels that have not even broken 10k views yet

you may be right thought that just the type of content tends to attract more one time passer by watchers than repeat subscriber viewers.

I really appreciate the tips on thumbnail. I know my thumbnails suck. I have a very bad eye for graphic design plus I'm still creating my thumbnails in paint witch Is really limited on what you can do witch makes it even worse. iv been wanting to look into some other software for making thumbnails but iv been a little lazy about it. always ill try to find something better for the next video.[DOUBLEPOST=1523803472,1523740597][/DOUBLEPOST]--------------------------
well first days worth of analytics on the new vid just came available to me and pretty stoked. watch time %at 94% relative audience retention runs high across the majority of the video. drops to above average for the last 20 seconds or so.

on the absolute retention first 5-6 seconds of the driving scene are above 100% audience retention. then holds 100% into the actual intro. drops to 95% for a couple seconds then back up to 100%, 109% is the highest retention spot in the video. 60% watched at the last second of the video.

now I completely expect these numbers to drop off some over time only info so far is on just the first 75 views. but pretty excited none the less. the bad part is though is none of the suggested video views are related. actually widely off topic I assume suggested to regular viewers. landing good suggested spots is the key to a video being successful for me. with that kind of retention I would think the algorithm should pick this one up.

majority of views are browse features and home pages. also a good percentage from a trucking forum I shared the video too.

1-30 second view from yttalk.....really whoever was the first one to watch it from this thread? lol
really I don't post here for promotion a few low retention views are well worth the advice iv gotten, thank you.

How to/ informational videos about cars are crucial for me because I have zero experience working on cars. One thing you should look at is fixing some of the titles to your videos so they are easy to sort through and find what we are looking for. Use short key phrases to really stand out. Also thumbnails can be a make or break for if someone clicks on your video. I told another person recently about a free site called Canva.com. This site is super easy to use and you can make some great clean thumbnails. If you ever need help or want me to get you a sample, I wouldn't mind (if i find the time).

As for keeping people through the video or getting them to subscribe, it just comes down to letting them know why they should subscribe. Really SELL it to them. I see this from a lot of Tubers "if you want to see more of these videos, hit the subscribe button" (ill be honest, I have done it). But before I started posting videos, I watched hours and hours of videos on YouTube. The people I subscribed to told me why subscribing to them would be a good thing. For example (not the best one tho), "If fixing cars/trucks is something you struggle with, then subscribe to this channel and come back weekly to get new insider tips on how to repair your problems with your vehicle" Like I said not the best but it does show them why they should subscribe.

some of my titles may seem a little weird because had to make them weird to get them to rank for some more common search terms. sometimes changing up words or putting words in a different order sometimes can be the difference between ranking 3rd under a search term or being on the second page. I should go back and re check all that especially the lower preforming video's the ones that are doing well I hate to touch.

my home page needs a lot of work I really need to buckle down on that. but I personally feel the content is what drives the subscribers so that has been my focus. majority of my subs come from watch pages. of course maybe that's why I'm missing out on subscribers. my subscriber rate does seem to be picking up so maybe its just me thinking I'm doing something wrong. or not doing something I should be doing.

I made kind of a bonus video and uploaded that I think covers everything mentioned video related. slightly worried about what my regular viewers / subscribers will think of it, its not a how to/repair video. and its not on large trucks (like the majority of my content) a lot of the footage was stuff I already had put together for future use so it was pretty quick to make this video. it feels to me like I'm begging though witch I don't really like. but a lot of this is experimentation to see what works and what does not. I probably should have waited till the rest of the parts came in for the next video I am planning on that project so I could have included some how to.

I feel it is a pretty good introduction to a project id like to do more content on.

I am thinking I will probably upload another heavy truck repair video next before I upload the upcoming video mentioned in this one to hopefully not upset subscribers that may only be interested in heavy truck stuff.
