Channel name or User name for subscriptions?

Hi guys!

I am a bit confused when it comes to what I should use in a subscription link - either as link (in the description or elsewhere), or in annotations.

My User ID does not seem to work (even though the official Youtube forums says that is the one to use - this might be outdated advice since new users can no longer select a proper user name until they have 500 subs), and when I enter the Channel ID instead in a subscription annotation, the annotation type changes from 'subscription' to 'channel' (but it does have a subscribe-thingy in the link it creates).

Also when used like this none of them seem to actually work with either User ID or Channel ID:
wwwyoutubecomhere/subscription_center?add_user=USERNAMEHERE

My User ID is: TEiyiTsJTGO7TTYFs7Eo2g
My Channel ID is: UCTEiyiTsJTGO7TTYFs7Eo2g

Any feedback would be great - would hate to have been adding something that really doesn't work to my videos.

To get a custom URL for your channel, your account needs to be in good standing and meet a few other requirements:

500 or more subscribers
Channels is at least 30 days old
Channel has uploaded a photo for the channel icon
Channel has uploaded channel art

You can also qualify for a custom URL by linking and verifying your official webpage with your channel or +Page.

So for time being you have to use nasty looking traditional links your channel has.
