Casey Neistat calls out YouTube

Crown

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A very interesting video by Casey Neistat who calls out YouTube for neglecting its creators and he accuses YouTube of giving priority to celebrities over creators.

In the video, he also mentions Adpocalyse and how it has affected many of his friends and then he goes on to give his opinions about what changes YouTube should be making to improve the situation.

I won't give any spoilers. I advise you to watch the video yourselves and make your own minds up. :)

Honestly
I fully agree with Casey's and Phil's opinions
They both are smart and witty people that understand what truly happens in accordance with youtube.

He makes some good points and a clear explanation. I love how he is not just bashing Youtube for making a mistake, but he genuinely wants the platform to succeed. I hope this gets picked up by the people in the Youtube offices, they'd do well to listen to their creators.

I already saw Phil's video, but I didn't see Casey's video about this topic. Couldn't have said better (both of them). The thing is, every time we creators get a feeling that we're safe, YouTube screws up again.

He's not wrong, and he isn't the first to say this.

YouTube will likely stay as the world's biggest video platform for much longer. I can't see Vimeo or anything else getting close to it. However original content creators are going to start fleeing. They already are. The site been plagued by lack of creativity. Most of the channels I watch have openly went against YT.

Even Pewdiepie, who is basically the face of YT makes A LOT of little jabs at YT in his videos and then I believe he made a full on one. Because people are getting tired of it. YT is losing the appeal it used to have where you went on and built followings, had little clans, so on. Google for a while was making some good changes, but right after getting rid of themes it was downhill spiral.

Hopefully one day they get their crap together once they realize how many of their biggest creators get tired.

Big problem is that he didn't think it was happening till the AI started to go after him. Smaller creators have been getting destroyed for months now. At least he finally sees the problems.

I agree that YT keeps this up it won't keep creators, places like Minds / vidme already have creator $$ in place.

We can all agree that youtube, and google overall, needs some competition before they go further into crazy authoritarian dystopia mode.

It has a lot to do with YouTube having this kind of authority stance on videos now. While it used to be, what became big became big. YouTube is having a lot more control of what gets promoted and elevated.

YouTube can't reverse guys like Filthy Frank, Idubbz, Pewdiepie so on getting big. They're huge, already big. You can't really take that away completely. What you can do is demonetize them, make them discouraged to keep going. H3H3 made a video recently ranting about how anything with even a slight bit of "non-family friendly content" gets demonetized for virtually no reason.

YT is shifting to being a content provider. Much like Netflix. Except, people willingly go on YouTube to create and in turn YouTube profits off them. It's a genius idea, but YT thinks creators are too stupid to realize it. When you're making a change and trying to brighten your image and become the "user created Netflix", you don't want guys eating throw up and yelling the n word on your service. Understandable. However it's gotten so bad to where ANYTHING controversial gets pulled unless those uploading the controversial content has a bigger influence than YT. Big TV shows, so on.

YT needs to work on going back to letting creators be creators. That is what made them big in the first place. Have your YT Red, have your exclusive shows, as a growing brand YOU SHOULD be diving into bigger markets. However don't f over those who use your platform and made you all this money in the first place.

Very fair points. We can see them attempting to shape content and political viewpoints blatantly.

It's a challenging issue. At some point a service becomes so big that to not utilize it puts you at a disadvantage. How many fortune 100 companies don't have a facebook? What would happen if YT or one of the other communication giants decided they don't agree with your point of view so they block you or cut off income?

YT as a business should have every right to block who they want, but YT as a communication service? I don't know. How would it be if the phone companies got together and said you couldn't have a phone number?

I agree. Unfortunately YouTube reserves the rights to do whatever they please within bounds.

There are no solid alternatives to YouTube. Sites that are seen as "competitors" are far, FAR, behind and don't offer what YT offers.
