Canon 50mm 1.8

Wow, if that's a green screen I'd sh*t my pants. That thought never occurred to me, but I don't think that's the case. I'm sure it's just a high quality L series lens producing a fantastic picture.

As far as 80-100mm? I highly doubt that. It's probably a 30mm shot max, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 24mm or lower. It looks like she's sitting quite close to the camera.

See how the bed appears large in comparison to her? And the lack of distortion in her face, which you would expect to see if she was close to a wide angle lens. Something about it looks a little funny to me, I think she must have a decent distance between her and the camera. Maybe 10-15 feet even.

Honestly the shot in the OP is a QUALITY shot. I'd actually love to get the details of how they accomplished it. The perspective of the frame makes it seems as though there was NOT a wide angle, I would almost guess it kind of looks like a 80-100mm. Is there any possibility this is just a green screen?

In all honestly there's nothing quality about this; it's pretty poorly exposed anyway. I think Will can achieve this very easily with a bit of natural light and his 50mm 1.8 lens - providing he finds somewhere to sit that allows the focal length.

James.

I can agree to that, he just needs the space.

I have the same lens. Its fantastic for photos. I don't have a video camera, so not sure what its like with that. It is a wide lens, so you do need to be back a bit.

Kit lens does a good job for me as long as there is space between the subject and the background. It's not perfect, but it does the trick. Obviously, the better the glass, the sharper and higher quality the image will be.

Hi guys.

I bought this lens as I wanted a blurred background effect.

I can't zoom with the lens. So I am setting it up in my bedroom, and the cmaera is 3.5 meters away from me and I am still not in shot. I can't really go back any further. Even if I could it would feel like the camera is miles away.

I obv aren't doing anything wrong? Maybe I need another lens?

This is the effect I want

How about posting a photo of what you are getting.

I just looked thru my Sigma 50mm 1.4 at about that distance and it would be a tight crop of you. Off the top of my head youre looking around 35mm. The photo that you posted I am sure the f stop is higher than 1.8 rough estimate 2.8 to 3.2. Take several test shots framed the best you can start at 3.5 and step down taking a test shot for every step your camera will do. Then you will know the f-stop that you want. Then buy a good quality lens that has that f-stop.
