Can somebody explain to me what Playback-Based CPM is?

My friend told me he had a $6 CPM even though he only gets like 5k views a month. But he sent me a pic. It said 'Playback-based' CPM. Not just CPM. What the heck does that mean? And what is playback based 'gross' revenue? Because the network has a really good CPM for small people which I would like to earn, but I don't know what playback based CPM is. Can somebody explain? I just wanted to know if it's any different from CPM.

CPM based on monetized views, with Google's 45% included.

no matter how many views he has, 6$ is under average. 7-9$ is about right, but it does all depend on content.

@AHelpfulGuy So playback based CPM is the same as CPM? Also, you mean Google takes 45%?. He said he'll soon be getting $9 CPM. But let's say this. He gets 1k FULLY monetized views (no adblocker) with a $9 CPM. Google takes 45%, and he's left with about $5, right? Just never heard of the Google thing before so yea.

To provide a bit more detail, CPM is a cost factor related to the advertiser and their ads. Playback Based CPM is an average of all of the ad revenue by the monetized views. It is an estimate of the rough value of 1000 video views. You will also see Impression based CPM which will be much lower (usually about half of Playback). Impression based is an average of the the rough value of the ads themselves over a thousand impressions.

The difference is that a single video playback could contain multiple ads, which means you're getting paid maybe 2 or 3 times for a single playback. This single play back could represent 2 or 3 impressions but only one monetized view.

So in your guys opinion, if I joined the network I could have about a $9 Playback based CPM, is it worth joining? Since on my current network my CPM has been the same as $2 for quite a while. I'm only making like $80-100 a month with the one I'm in. (I get around 3k views a day but could easily raise it to 10-40k a day, I've done it multiple times)

Not at all, CPM is based on content. even if they have a better CPM, yours may rise to 2-4$ max..

You have to think of it from the advertiser side. Networks do have sales teams that append ads into the Adwords/Adsense system which can increase CPM, but the bulk of ads are still Adwords ones. These ads are targeted based on the demographic of the content (they don't care about your channel, they care about the type of people who watch your channel). You can improve CPM by increasing your audience retention. The goal behind partnership is hopefully for CPM to increase by enough to justify the network revenue share. Not all networks increase it enough. You want to go for absolutely no less than 70/30 and preferably higher.

@AHelpfulGuy I meant that as well since whenever I go mainstream on views, they watch the video longer and are interested, since I walkthrough new games, and am usually the first or second to do it.
