Can I Record PC with an El Gato?

OBS is free and easy to use.

Second this. OBS is free, and wayy smoother and faster than Xsplit. It also uses a lot less CPU when running. I have both, and never touch xsplit anymore.
Would recommend OBS to anyone wanting to record PC, XBOX, Playstation, webcam, mic, etc

Is there a way to record my PC with the El Gato or no? I should just need 2 computers right? Then just HDMI passthrough with the laptop instead of the Xbox right?

This is possible (I have done it just to see if it works) you don't even "Need" two computers but the software does use a lot of your cpu.

I agree to use other software like Fraps/Dxtory.. Personally I like Mirillis Action.
However, OBS is free *hint* and works very well.

Yes you can. I have an elgato, to do it you use it just like you would record a console, with the hdmi cables, but instead of plugging them into consoles plug them into another hdmi port on your pc. You only need one pc.

If you plug the HDMI cable from the elgato to your pc then plug the other hdmi cable into your monitor. You can record straight from your PC without the need of a second PC.
