Can commenting on popular channels make you popular?

Even an anonymous channel like mine has had those "Love the video, come check mine out" comments. Hate them! I comment for genuine reasons on a video, if I have nothing to say then I won't just comment for exposure, you can see it's weak and transparent! :P
 
I agree with what press record said... This not only works on youtube.. I saw facebook pages promoting themselves on other famous pages' posts. They just random funny memes that has nothing to do with the original post, yet they get likes and exposure. That is a great way to get noticed
 
I usually comment on videos that are similar to mine. I watch a lot of game reviews and if I like want I see I leave some nice feedback for this video :) But I never advertise my channel in comments though that`s annoying lol

You guys are all doing it completely wrong. The entire point of top commenting is NOT to advertise your own channel. You are trying to come up with something funny / witty to get the top comment. If people then notice your comment and see what a funny person you are (lol), they might go check out your channel.

For example if I write a funny comment on a video and that comment ends up getting 1000 upvotes, then a lot of people will just end up checking out my channel. This gives free views and some of those viewers might like what they see and end up subscribing.


By the way... The only reason the self advertising comments on youtube work is because they are clearly being botted. I mean who the hell would like and comment on youtube comments that go
''Hey guys my videos are not getting any views, please check out all my videos... All I want to do in life is make people laugh....''

Thats right... no one...

Haha well you are the master. I thought of writing a top comment guide myself once I saw how effective it was. Then I searched YTTALK and saw that you had already written an excellent guide.

I wish I could. But funny comments are always written in the context of the video. Although a lot of the time I don't even try to make comments I myself consider funny. Instead I just do some derp humor that people will find funny.
Try searching on youtube for ''Ian mckellen you shall not pass''. Check out the top comments on that video, they will give an idea for what to aim for.

The worst part is that this works greatly for top comments. Something I like doing is to make jokes which are hard to understand / ambiguous . Most people will be like LOL WTF U ARE A RETARD. Whereas a lot of people will understand the joke and come to my defence... This leads my comment to get an extreme ammount of comments and ensures that I get the top comment.

i agree with that. I think the basic point here is that you must always grab attention. Something random and crazy generally always works like you mentioned.

Ummm I did say I don`t advertise in my post in the comments. I said I like to watch videos similar to my content that`s all
