Camera Lighting

I'm cheap and just use the white backdrop in my hallway and face a window so I get natural lighting and it works fantastic.

All very good advices, I'll check out some of the stuff everybody is mentioning. I found some tutorials of making softboxes yourself but I'm afraid to set the house on fire.
