Camera Lighting

Hey guys!

Hope you are all well :)

In my first proper video I do have an extremely bad shadow behind me, ahh cringe! so I was considering either two soft boxes or maybe just an LED light to pop on my camera or whatnot.

It is much cheaper to get an LED light but I know the lighting will probably be much nicer via the softboxes. The other issue is actually going to be that I don't really have much room for a softbox!

I was looking around on Amazon UK mainly, but let me know what you think!

If you're going to get an LED light make sure it has a color temp control on it so you can adjust the lighting. Otherwise it may seem fake. The best lighting is that which cannot be noticed.

LED lights on the camera are crap - well I think so anyway. I have one which I tried on my camera and it really wasn't that good.
In fact I think I only ever used it once, and may still have the box etc if you wanna buy it off of me at a cheaper price!!

Use 2 soft boxes now, which are OK if you have them relatively close to the subject for some good even lighting.

Anything specific you could recommend? Also, just watched Playground Politics! I liked it! very very cool! :)[DOUBLEPOST=1386792836,1386792803][/DOUBLEPOST]

Ah, see now I am even more confused! What should I do?!

If I get the money I'm going to get some softboxes because the time I'm able to film it's already dark. Tonight also I wanted to film something and I just can't make it work. so I have to wait until Friday again to Film during the day. That means I have to combine my vlogmas videos :-(

I'm having lighting issues too with my vlogs, but using my phone's camera probably doesn't help with that in fairness. If you've got the cash for it, I'd go for it.

Get all the lamps in your house and set them up. I'm sure you guys have at least a desklight. Put a tracing paper on it (diffusion) and you have your very own softbox! Make sure the paper isn't too close to the light.... I don't want to be responsible if someone's burns down their house...

Well that's the problem, I don't have lights that work good enough to make my videos look more professional. I do photography to so I probably use it for more than only video making

If you're going to go with an LED make sure that the LED has a brightness knob. Otherwise it's practically useless. You will be a glowing ball of light if it doesn't.

Softboxes are relatively cheap, reliable and look beautiful on film. Research Cowboy Studios. I just bought a 3 pack of softboxes, one with a sky boom arm for 200 bucks. And they were the better ones out of the bunch. You can get 2 packs of the cheaper model for 80 bucks.

I use the Yongnuo led YN-300 light that is a lot like the soft boxes but it's a little smaller and you can still defuse the light with the filters they give you. It's actually a really good light!
