LOL this original post is everything I am feeling. The big creator videos out there are SO out of touch on what it's like to be a small creator. Most of them have just been on YouTube since it started and have that 'alumni' thing going on. The advice that most of them give is poop. I'm subscribed to YT Creators and Creator Academy but I can't get through half of those videos because they are same advice OVER AND OVER. You'll find a lot of big but experienced YouTubers giving advice: MysteryGuitarMan, to the above point, OlgaKay, iJustine.. lots of people who have been on the platform for a long time who have a big following. They give advice like 'Engage your viewers': respond to their comments, 'Promote Yourself': use social media to promote your videos. I'll watch it to see if I see anything new but typically it's the redundant BS that everyone says 'Be Consistent', 'Do videos you like' blah blah blah. Nothing new or interesting or even significant on how to grow a channel.
I honestly think that if you're a small creator your best bet to do anything is to collaborate and go to events to meet people.
They say: 'Promote Your Videos On Social Media' - I can promote the heck out of my videos on social media but it only goes so far until you get to that line of too much promotion where you're pushing away followers and looking desperate.
I get what you mean by frustrating. I really do. It's about luck or knowing someone.
End Rant.
