Since the 40’s Rockets have been used as a means to reach that goal, but even then, as dependent on them as we are, they are still far from an affordable means of breaking through our planets orbit which keeps us confined to Earth. The average cost of a rocket sending 1 pound to Earth's orbit is a whopping $10,000. For a kilogram around $20,000. Which converts to around 1.4 million dollars for the average human, So unless you’re an astronaut, or a billionaire, the chances of going into space are extremely slim. Even when accounting for SpaceX’ improvements in rocket efficiency and reusability it still costs far too much for a mass scale entrance into space, at least for the time being. There is however a solution, among a few others First suggested in 1895 the concept of a space elevator has been around for a little over a century and Although evolved throughout the years, The concept still remains the same. The space elevator is a proposed idea for planet-to-space transportation. With current ideas consisting of a cable anchored to the surface of a planet which would then be extending into space. A space elevator located on Earth would consist of a cable with one end attached to the surface near the equator and the other end in space, at geostationary orbit at around the altitude of 22,236 miles.
