Hi,
Ive read a few threads regarding giveaways and they mostly center around the discussion of whether a giveaway is a good way to grow your channel or not. The consensus seems to be "no", and I would tend to agree with that consensus. So I dont plan on doing a giveaway to gain subs, but more to celebrate the 500 subs and reward those who helped me get there. As I just mentioned, I plan on doing a giveaway once I hit 500 subs. The old "500 Subscriber's Giveaway" haha. Im only at 140 subs now so its quite a ways off...just thinking waaay ahead.
Obviously I cant require subscription (as far as I am aware), but I can strongly encourage it. Can I say something along the lines of (but much more eloquently), "Please enter. No need to subscribe. 1st prize is 1.5g gold. Plus a DigginForGold embroided hat if you're also a subscriber"? So that adds extra incentive to subscribe while not making it a requirement (but I could also see how this might also be a breach of the rules?)
Regarding the giveaway itself, should I go with something like "Guess the number of whatevers in the jar" type of thing with entrants giving their guess in the comments? Or perhaps something like "Somewhere in my last few videos I mentioned my favorite colour (just as an example). Tell me what is is. To enter, send an email with your answer to example at email dot com", (and ill throw all the correct answers into a hat and draw the actual winner from there). The first method seems more fun, but it would make it easier for people who dont care about my channel to enter (since all they have to do is watch that one video and enter a guess right there in the youtube comments). The second method requires them to watch a few of my videos in order to find the correct answer (benefiting those who have already seen them, or those who are willing to put the effort in to watch a few vids and find the right answer (which Im fine with)), and would then require them to go off site to email their answer...hopefully weeding out some more of those who dont care.
What do you think? Perhaps you've got a better way of doing it? If so, please let me know
