Best Time To Publish - Our Channel Data

I'm trying to fine tune the BTTP. There are also a few threads here and there about it. I thought I would share our data and thinking about it. Would like to hear everyone's comments and experiences so we can fine tune it.

I want to publish just before the traffic starts to rise into peak viewing times, in order to make sure the video is referenced properly, so that over the next few hours the maximum number of viewers can see it.

Note: these are AEDT times. The live traffic patterns are consistent across the weak, with higher peaks over the weekend. We average about 1M/48 hours, so it's not too small nor too big and gives a good cross-section of viewers I think.

Our best times to catch the rising traffic is 10 PM (AEDT) according to the live traffic data. This is 7 AM New York and 4 AM Los Angeles.

According to TubeBuddy (which gets its data I believe from the time that comments are posted) is 12 AM (AEDT). This is 9 AM New York and 6 AM Los Angeles.

So the sweet spot is 10 PM - 11 PM (AEDT), or 7 AM - 8AM New York / 4 AM - 5 AM Los Angeles. This catches early morning traffic with kids watching across the US, with the peak after lunch and a drop off in the early afternoon.


Would like to hear your peak times and any reasoning you use....

Right, I'm not big but I do notice waves in my realtime analytics ahah.

My peak times according to tubebuddy is on Saturdays around 12 pm GMT and I do get better views in the weekends. Sometimes it starts to rise on Fridays but mostly on Saturdays with or without a video published during those times.

I don't really have any fixed day or time that I choose to publish because I don't think it would make much difference. Though starting this month, I tried publishing every Saturdays, still too early to see any difference for now.

Anyways, I hope to learn a lot from this thread.

For me, it's hard to gauge the best time to publish because one of the hugest factor determining views in the first 24 hours is the video's topic. Generally interesting topics garner the most views, regardless of publish time. More specific topics will have a hard time reaching half of the more general topics, regardless of publish time.

That being said, I definitely feel that posting in the mornings of EST and PST generally do better than posting in the afternoon. Thursdays and Fridays tend to also be the best days. Weekends are usually weak for me. I used to post a video on the weekends and they never did well. But once again, they were the more specific topic variety, and I'm sure that played a role in it.

My go-to time is Thursday mornings around 6AM PST. I'm thinking about releasing a bit earlier to get in line with EST. I'll probably try that in my next video. BTW, I release videos weekly.

Because I'm small and a lot of my traffic is not really measurable right now (adwords is such a big factor for me right now and I only run it in Europe and North America) so I picked a time to publish a video myself. I upload at 7AM cet which is just at the time European kids wake up and it's also not too far away from the US which is my secondary best view location (netherlands first, USA second).
Once I have some proper non-adwords stimulated traffic going on I will check if the time needs to change.

I suppose it depends on your potential audience, my average viewer is aged between 45-55 and is 95% male, from my research the best time for the upload to touchdown is at 7.30pm GMT, which is exactly when all their wives sit down to watch the soaps on tv

Starting October 6th, I publish every day (7 days a week) at noon, Pacific Time (I'm in Oregon). Before then, I was publishing at that time every other day. Last time I checked (months ago), TubeBuddy told me best time to upload was Saturday at noon.

My daily peaks seem to be 4-5 pm. Here is my current 48-hour realtime... well, never mind. It is making a liar out of me currently, because it is showing peaks at 11a-12p, 5-6p, 8-10a, and a smaller one at 4-5p. It must be because we just got out of a weekend. But normally on the weekdays it peaks at 4-5p and has a valley around 10p-12a for both days in the last 48 hours. I mainly pick noon because it is right in the middle of the day.

I also have weekly peaks and valleys. Here are the daily views for the last 90 days:



Ignore that huge drop for October 15th and 16th. My channel was "permanently terminated" during that time. It took a little bit for videos to show up in search results and suggested videos lists after that and I'm still having weird things with thumbnails not showing up (as you can see in my signature). It's funny, but the last day at the right side of the chart is a Saturday.

Thanks for sharing that graph. I'll generate a daily one like that as well to see the best days. I'm aiming for a once daily upload now, so since that factor is solid, it's a matter to fine-tune the hour.

Well... my whole channel relies on Fair Use, much like a "best of" compilation or reaction channel would, though I believe that my use is more firmly within what Fair Use is intended to protect. Since the theme of my channel is showing my idea of how existing songs and TV show intros would be if they were created in an alternate "horror" universe, I get a fair amount of copyright claims. Some of them release the claim when I dispute them, but most don't. Since most would rather take down the video than let me have it up without a claim on it, I only appeal 2 at a time and then file counter-notifications when they take them down. On Friday, October 14th I uploaded a video and scheduled it to be published in February (the main reason I'm publishing every day is because even at that rate, I already have enough videos scheduled to last until then). I got a Content-ID match on it from a nursery rhyme YouTube channel, and I've noticed that these types of content owners, like you, are more interested in taking videos down than making money off them.

I disputed the claim and they responded by taking the video down. I already had 2 copyright strikes from previous take-downs, so this gave me 3 strikes and my channel was terminated. I was surprised because out of my many claims I've dealt with, this was the first time someone responded to a dispute that way (normally it is after I appeal their reinstated claim). I figured they must have been using Content-ID as a means to identify their content and then use that to take them down. I recognized the efficiency of this and that was the basis for my suggestion to you about how you could use Content-ID to help locate other people copying your content.

One of the counter-notifications expired the following Monday, 3 days after, and my channel was restored automatically because my number of strikes fell below 3. The second one expired last Thursday (4 days later). The counter-notification I filed for the one that took my channel down says that the video will be back up if they don't respond with proof of court proceedings by November 1st.

Exactly the same for me. I have three distinct topics, and the hair videos are the ones that get 10X the views of the others, so I don't really have anything to compare them to. And oddly, they tend to get more views as the days go by (a small flurry of activity just on the day of upload, then a few days later, they tend to get to their final landing places and gain a few per week, as the other videos do).
