Well, I've been using FRAPS mostly, and I love it. It's nice and simple, and gives great video quality. Huge files, but eh, I don't really care.
I also have DxTory, I tried it, it was okay, but I felt that Fraps gave better visuals. Also it had a lot of settings to mess with.

Wait, do you want to record games or just your screen in general?

For Game Recording - Fraps or Bandicam
For Screen Recording - Camtasia
Oh yeah!
Yes, if you want to record your desktop/websites etc, Camtasia would be the way to go.

I would recommend camtasia.
It isn't free (in legal way), but it records in really great quality. Also it comes with camtasia studio where you can edit your screen recording and export it in a lot of different formats.

For mac Screenflow is great, for Windows I'm not really sure but I hear xsplit being mentioned a lot

XSplit is lovely for livestreaming, haven't really tried it for something else yet. :)
I love that you can have lots of screens in one screen, if you understand ^^

A free alternative to Camtasia is Camstudio which works great for stuff like tutorials.

DxTory over Fraps
Fraps feels antiquated and restrictive! No dual audio recording or anything decent..[DOUBLEPOST=1396444554,1396444525][/DOUBLEPOST]For screen recording, OBS or Mirrilis Action!
For game recording, DxTory

Dual audio recording doesn't bother me, since I record my game audio & microphone separately. DxTory has way to many settings to fiddle with.
