FPS matter, but also the price per fps. The 7970 is a lot cheaper than a 770 and performs about as well.

But nVidia performs better with Intel, Im not entirely sure why but they tend to just work better together

Well yes and no, for the price you get better graphics with AMD, but for the +500 plus quid range you can get better with Intel, it's odd.
AMD's shortcomings are mainly due to their drivers, they are pretty bad (but getting better)
