So you want to record gaming videos but your PC doesn't quite agree with you?
Or maybe when you record, half of your video just disappears or the audio stops half way through.
These can be signs that maybe your PC just can't quite handle recording and writing the file.
This problem can come from your CPU, GPU and HDD combined.
Without going too much into the detailes I am going to tell you the best thing to do to solve this problem.

1. What program should I use?
Well the program I believe you should use is DXTORY. I have tried Fraps, Action, Bandicam, ALL of them but the only one that has the best "bang for your buck" in FPS to quality wise, is Dxtory. While I do enjoy the others and believe they have their respectful places in their field, DXTORY is the best.
But I believe it is mainly the best due to its advanced option system. No other program allows you to fully take control of it the way DXTORY does.

2. Well now what?
Well Dxtory by itself, while good, isn't the best without editing a good chunk of settings.

3. What settings should I use then?
Well here is when it might get a bit confusing so bear with me:

A. First you are going to want to download x264vfw encoder. This will be used in just a bit.
( Google it as I sadly can not post any links )

B. Next, open Dxtory and go to the "Movie" tab and for "Codec" choose the one you just downloaded (x264vfw)

C. Click the "edit" button next to the codec to edit the settings.
For PRESET choose: Ultrafast
For TUNING choose: NONE
For PROFILE choose High 4:4:4
For LEVEL choose: Auto
Check off: Fast Decode and Zero Latency

For RATE CONTROL choose: Single Pass - Lossless
And click "ok"

D. Go to the "Audio" tab and change the bitrate to: PCM 48000 HZ, 24 biy, Stereo.

E. Go to the "Advanced" tab and check the following:
-Enabled Synchronous Surface Look
-Wait for Available Buffer
And set your "Processing Threads" to the max
-Limit video FPS: 30

--

It should save automatically and there you go! Most of your FPS/loss of video/loss of audio problems should be solved!

Good advice here, hope it helps out people with computers that aren't exactly good. #FrapsMasterRace

How big do your files come out with this codec? I think you're using a different codec than what I'm using. My file sizes come out a bit large when using Dxtory. Though it is a good program, no question. I'd argue better than Fraps.

A 12 minute file end up coming out to being about 6.48 GB.

In all seriousness, just from memory but afaik that codec isn't really great for low end PCs due to encoding/compressing at the same time you record. Am I getting the wrong one?

Yeah to a get a file size that small and at a great quality requires some major CPU horsepower, not to mention in realtime + whilst running a game.

Anything that is near lossless or outputs a final huge file size video will generally be less taxing on your CPU (=better for lower end PCs).

Alternatively, to anyone reading you can buy a £60 capture card from Amazon (Avermedia Live gamer Portable Light). Use this to record your gameplay without putting stress on the CPU/PC. I use Dxtory for low-high end games. And for the utmost demanding ones, I use my capture card. I hope this helps

Yea that's it. Always nicer to have losless footage imo.

I probably should have specified this is mainly for recording games on PC. I forgot about consoles xD
