Benefiting from a Viral Video

I think one of my cars and coffee videos is "linked" to another car show video that is pretty popular. It is underway of becoming the #1 video of my channel, closing in on my mustang review video. It will take a few months though, as the mustang review video does pretty well to begin with.

Back in the day you could sometimes piggyback by doing a video reply (assuming the owner of the video allowed them). I think it helped to do video replies even to videos that weren't viral, but steady view getters. Shame you can't do that any more!

Would you ever join another network? Channel Frederator approached me a couple months ago and when I asked them how my channel would benefit and how long their contract was, they never responded. I had a nagging feeling about them and that just confirmed it.

I'm not against it, but it they would have to benefit me in some way. I had a lot of good music from Fullscreen's "royalty free" audio library which was one of the main reasons I went with them. I started to get a 3rd party claim just about every other day for a couple months straight starting a few months ago and they said there was no resolution. They told me to just monitor my videos. I asked what would happen if a video suddenly got over 100K views in 48 hours like one of mine did right after a false 3rd party claim. They basically said I'd be screwed out of the earnings and there's nothing I could do about it. Luckily that video had music from a different site... Anyways, long story short, they were of no benefit to me anymore so I didn't feel like they deserved the % of money they were getting anymore. They were really good for about 2 years, but after this music b******t I was done with them.

I tried using Viral Spiral on one video as soon as Fullscreen was detached from me, no luck yet. I think I'll work on a per video basis for now unless a channel has a guaranteed advantage for me. Just read the contracts they send you and ask yourself if it's worth the cut they will get. For me adding awesome music to videos was worth the cut at the time, but after the hassle lately I said screw them.

PIggybacking of viral videos can be a great way to drive views for relatively low effort, despitie it being somewhat low. PSY just released a couple new soon-to-be viral music videos, one of them being "DADDY".

There's already tons upon tons of reaction videos of it. Go surf the wave while it's hot!

I hate reaction videos, so I'd never do one even if it meant views. The only reaction videos that I like are when people watch something extremely weird or gross, I can't stand the ones where somebody just sits there doing nothing. They basically leech off of the title of something popular

Reaction videos aren't anything I'm interested in, either. I have this issue where I try really hard to not do any work based on someone else's work, either in my own play writing or on my channel, and I suffer for it, for sure. It would be easier if I'd try to do tags or challenges or reaction videos, but then it wouldn't feel like "my" work, somehow.(Nothing AT ALL against anyone who creates these videos....this rule only applies to me in my own weird little brain!!!)

I think getting attached to a viral video somehow can help you for that video you've gotten to follow around the viral video, but how does it affect traffic in general on your channel? I'm subscribed to two YouTubers who have had massive viral videos, but then their view counts went right down after that video, because that was the only thing viewers were interested in.
