Being offered some AAA keys for reviews...

WeiseGamer

Your #1 Source For Indie Gaming
Hey all,

If you don't know me, (YOU SHOULD! jk) I do Indie Game reviews. My brand has always been indie games with an occasional AAA title I wanted to play when I did some let's plays now and again.

I've been in touch with a couple PR platforms/publishers who work with indie games as well as bigger AAA titles and they send me keys for games to review off and on. Well, now they are starting to ask if I am willing to move into AAA coverage. For example, I was giving Dying Light: The Following for free. I declined initially, saying that I'm honored to be given larger titles, but at the moment I am covering just indie titles.

Is this a bad move? Staying true to my brand versus expanding to larger, possibly more searchable, titles?

I don't think it would be too bad as long as you stick somewhat to your staple of indy games. Staying to just indy games can limit your audience somewhat, but at the same time you don't want to just put-off the followers you already have by going in a completely new direction.

I would be a little upset at first if I saw you doing some triple A ,if you hadn't already stated that you do play some of the more popular titles as well. Since you already set a precedence on your channel, it really shouldn't come as too big a shock. Plus by appealing a little bit more to the AAA stuff, the viewers that you gain through those videos will also bring attention to the indy games you play/review. Win/win in my opinion~

That's a good point. I should look into it. I haven't bought Dying Light itself yet unfortunately, so the expansion wouldn't help me unless I bought the original too anyway (unless that key was the complete edition thing that includes the original). But I'll reach out to my contact about it in general and say I don't mind easing into them.

If you think you'd enjoy the AAA games then I'd say go for it, but keep the indie game videos coming along as well, in between the AAA game uploads, to satisfy your audience optimally. Only if you enjoy it though, and you think that is what your audience would enjoy.
