Being discouraged

I would say, don't judge your content by how many likes/comments it gets because that has to do with how many people find your content and whether it is what they were looking for. Your own opinion and that of people you know and trust (like frequent commenters?) should matter more.

If you ever feel discouraged, go find your channel on socialblade and look into similar channels. You will find channels worse off than yours and it will make you feel better. :) Yes, you're feeling better at other people's misfortune, but this doesn't exactly hurt anyone.

Yea, I mostly feel the same way sometimes in terms of viewership; my most popular videos by far are the ones I think are the absolute worst. The ones I put my heart and soul into get almost no attention, but the ones I s**t out because "meh, need something to go up this week" did stupidly well for the size of my channel. I definitely get discouraged, like what's the point of trying so hard when less than 50 people are going to watch it. I try not to let it affect the actual content creation, though. Like, I get discouraged by my channel as a whole, but try to keep excitement for the current video I'm shooting/editing. You should want the content to exist whether or not people want to watch it. Does that make sense?

This may be unpopular here - but I honestly mean it from a positive place...

If you get discouraged by the numbers, you're not in it for the right reasons. I started taking on the world of Youtube more seriously 2 months ago because it's something I've always wanted to do. I have been a blogger for a while and review a lot of tech, so felt it would be really cool to do unboxing videos as something additional to what I do. So for me, doing video stuff is an extension of my passions and desires. I certainly look at my numbers, but I ultimately don't care what they are. What I do care about is when someone comments asking me a question about something I've unboxed, and I can give them an answer.... or my mom sends me a text saying how much she liked seeing my weekly vlog.

So my advice to you is... if you're discouraged by the numbers, evaluate why you're doing it. If it's to get Youtube famous/Youtube money - that's a bad plan. And if you're doing it because you actually enjoy the process of creating, editing, posting and sharing - then maybe re-evaluate WHAT you're doing, and find something more to your passions. More to the things that make you excited.

You make a good point in my opinion, there is one thing that I would have disagree you about, from my personal experience at least. I am a person that loves numbers, math, charts, everything, and I really enjoy doing what I'm doing, and if less people saw it I'd still continue doing it. But when you a group of people watch you content, it makes you feel even better. It's not that I, or most people I think, are just looking for the big numbers, it's more than when you do see the big numbers you feel really good about yourself and happy. If you see those a few times in a short period, and then not again for a while, you can feel down that you can't entertain your viewers the same way.

I hear you. I get that way at times too, but this place is great for the help and support. Just keep growing and learning, you'll make it.

Being able to let something go is kind of freeing, in a way. But it's also an admission of defeat. Sometimes that's a good thing for your own sanity. However, it's a terrible way to approach life. If you love something, never stop striving for it. Scratching that itch is more freeing than giving it up could ever be.

Being discouraged to me is something very powerful. Like when i post a new video that i feel was my best work and i barely get any likes or views and the comments are from close personal friends. It discourages me a little because what if my best isnt good enough? Youtube is something ive always loves and ive always wanted people to recognize my work. But what if what i think is funnt everyone else thinks is stupid?

Much love

You feel discouraged because you've had expectations from your videos. The video performances didn't met your expectations.

First don't expect anything from your videos and it's much easier to deal with it.
